Joey Logano to Start a Strong 7th at Martinsville Speedway in the No. 20 Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota
Martinsville, VA -- Joey Logano, driver of the No. 20 Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Joe Gibbs Racing, qualified 7th for Sunday's TUMS Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway.
This morning had a familiar feeling to most in the garage, as rain saturated the short Martinsville Speedway earlier this morning. Fortunately, the rain dissipated and NASCAR was able to get the track dry for a majority of the first practice and before the start of Farm Bureau Insurance Pole Qualifying this afternoon.
In the practice session, the Joe Gibbs Racing team started by working on race runs similar to what they could see throughout Sunday's race. It was important for the team to continue to get Joey additional laps, considering his only start at Martinsville came earlier this year. Before the practice session was over Joey made a few pole laps, and then the team made the necessary changes to get the Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota ready to roll-off 1st for qualifying.
"The Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota was decent in the first practice. Since I only have one race here I spent a majority of the practice getting a better understanding of what works and what lines on the track are fast," said Joey Logano.
Whatever adjustments Joey and the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing team made from practice to qualifying seemed to pay off, as they posted a lap fast enough to roll-off 7th on Sunday.
"The Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota didn't feel much different than what we had in practice. We seemed to pick up about a tenth and a half. I'll take that. I didn't think we were going to pick up that much. It seems like the Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota is pretty good.
