MARTINSVILLE, Va. (October 21, 2002) - Jimmy Spencer drove the No. 41 Target Dodge Intrepid R/T to a 24th place finish in the Old Dominion 500 at Martinsville Speedway.

Spencer started the 500-mile short track race in 21st position but quickly moved into the top-20 by lap 14. During Spencer's first update of the car's condition, he stated that it was loose off of the corners and suggested a track bar adjustment for better handling.

By lap 109, Spencer moved into the top-15. A two-tire pit stop on lap 133 put Spencer out in fourth position and he raced within the top-5 for the next 60 laps. From lap 210 to 344, Spencer consistently competed in the top-20.

During the last 100 laps of the event, the Target Dodge dropped to the top-25 with Spencer taking the checkered flag in 24th place.

"We just lost the handle on it," Spencer said at the end of the race. "We got up there with good track position one time, but we never got the balance where we needed it. Once we lost the balance it would slide getting in the corner. We got it a lot looser, but it didn't help it getting in and it hurt it getting off."

Kurt Busch, driver of the No. 97 Rubbermaid Ford, won the Old Dominion 500. Next on the schedule for the No. 41 Target team is the NAPA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on October 27, 2002.
