DALE EARNHARDT, JR., NO. 88 AMP ENERGY/NATIONAL GUARD IMPALA SS, QUALIFIED 12TH:

"I kinda of messed up on my second lap, I did mess up on my second lap, not kinda. The car was pretty good on the first lap and on the second lap I got off four pretty bad. The car is real fast and we'll do our best on Sunday."

JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DUPONT/NATIONALGUARD.COM IMPALA SS, QUALIFIED 2ND:

ON HIS QUALIFYING RUN "When your teammates go ahead of you like that, and then one right behind you, and you know how fast they are, it's nice to be sitting at number one even though we've gone earlier. It's a great feeling. I'm really excited about this DuPont/Nationalguard.com Chevrolet and how it's been performing today. But we've got a few more bullets to dodge before this thing is over, but I'm real happy with the lap. Not a whole lot more I feel like I could have done to improve. Of course it's always little things. But I'm real happy with it and the fact that Mark (Martin) ran as solid a lap as he did and it was a good lap; we were able to up that just a tiny bit, because he's been kicking our tails every weekend in qualifying. So I feel pretty good right now. We'll just wait and see.

"I'm excited about that lap. Mark Martin has been the man when it has come to qualifying this year. I know we only got him by a couple of thousandths. We drew an early number, had a great car in practice I felt like I couldn't have gotten through one and two any better and I felt like I hit three and four pretty. I thought it was going to be enough. It wasn't by much but still a lot of cars to go but really excited about this DuPont/NationalGuard.com Chevrolet and how it is running. Being here at Martinsville. It was a great lap for us. When you are trying to beat somebody like Mark Martin who laid down a very good lap, it is a fine line, you have to push hard and be aggressive but not over go over the line. I have been having some trouble locking the left front tire up getting in to the corner; I was really trying hard not to do that. I had a couple of moments out there but it seemed to gather itself back up once it got in the corner."

MARK MARTIN, NO. 5 KELLOGG'S /CARQUEST IMPALA SS:

DID YOU LEAVE ANYTHING OUT THERE? "Well, yes I did. I slipped on my second lap. I dialed some rear brake into it. It was too much. The last run we made, it needed it. And then I think we got the car a little bit better. The car was phenomenal. I got that quick lap on the first lap; I should have been able to get a quicker second lap. I got the rear wheels bouncing going into (Turn) 1 and it was great. Awesome run! It's pretty cool to run that fast on the first lap. We have a great race car. It'll be a good starting spot.

"The first lap was phenomenal and I tried to reach and get some more and I got wheel hop going in to one. The second lap had potential to be quicker but I had too much rear brake in it and over drove it."

CASEY MEARS, NO. 07 JACK DANIELS IMPALA SS, QUALIFIED 6TH:

HOW MUCH MOMENTUM DO YOU HAVE NOW GOING INTO THE REST OF THE SEASON? "You know, we'll see how it goes. I'm really, really proud of what everybody has done up to this point. We've had a lot of fun these last few races. Actually we ran really well in races before that but just little things happened where we're not getting the finishes that we needed. But it feels good to come to a place like Martinsville and back-up what we've been doing at the bigger tracks. So, I've just been having a lot of fun and hopefully we can get the Jack Daniels Chevrolet up front and keep it up front all day long and have a good finish and whatever happens after this we'll just deal with it the best we can."

"It wasn't pretty but it was good. I we just working on the long runs. We kind of struggled in practice. But we knew that we were decent on speed and if we picked up a tenth, we were going to be good. That is what we did, picked up a tenth in practice. We got the car the car turning a little bit better but it was almost a little bit too loose. I am proud of everybody. Just looking to have some fun this weekend. Hopefully we will have a good race and keep marching forward in the points."

MARTIN TRUEX, JR., NO. 1 VASELINE MEN BODY LOTION IMPALA SS, QUALIFIED 3RD:

"It was a good lap. Usually I typically over drive the car here so I just had to wait for it to come to me and take it easy. I had a really good second lap going and I slipped off of four and lost a little bit of time. Good lap. Good pickup from practice. These guys have worked hard and built this brand new race car to come here. Proud of the effort and so far it has started out as a good weekend."

RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 39 U.S. ARMY IMPALA SS, POLE WINNER: ON HIS QUALIFYING RUN

"I think I got everything out of it I could have. I tried to get more on the second lap, but it costs me. But it was a great lap for the U.S. Army Chevrolet. Tony Gibson and the guys did a great job and the Hendrick horsepower, so we'll just see where we end up. But I'm pretty confident that I got all I could get out of it."

OVERDRIVING CAN REALLY PUT YOU DOWN HERE, CAN'T IT? "Well after so many big tracks and then you come to a short track, it's easy to overdrive it here. Tony Gibson (crew chief) and these guys did a great job with this US Army Chevrolet. It has been a real pleasure to drive all day. Kinda of looking forward to practice tomorrow getting rained out. We'll see. I think it was a really good lap. It felt really nice. I tried to get too much out of the second lap and got loose off of four. Great effort for the US Army Chevrolet."
