KURT BUSCH - No. 97 Sharpie/IRWIN Taurus (Finished 5th)
"It was a superb day. With the way we tested and put things together, we just implemented too aggressive of a setup. We didn't know the concrete was gonna be this harsh on tires and then it filled in as we went, so we had a great setup for the beginning part of the race, it was just too aggressive for the later part and we got boxed in."
YOU WERE RUNNING HARD AT THE END TO GAIN SPOTS. YOU WEREN'T JUST COASTING THE LAST 20 LAPS OR SO. "Five points means everything with the way this new point system is set up. We couldn't quite get by the 40 car at the end. We raced each other hard and it was fun, but yet we had a great day all in all with making the right adjustments in the pits and doing it as a team. We qualified well and we stayed up front, we just didn't get the lucky coin as far as who was gonna pit when.
HOW LUCKY DO YOU FEEL GETTING OUT OF HERE IN SUCH GOOD SHAPE? "I saw lucky. The 24 was a lap down today and came back to finish up front. He did a great job and that's what everybody needs to do in this championship. For us, we had a solid car all day. We led competitive laps and just didn't make it at the end because we got too tight at the end. It was just too aggressive of a front shock setup." IT WAS A GREAT RUN. "This is a great place to race. Martinsville Speedway is so much fun to race as a short track, but the new surface - the asphalt to the concrete - it provided for some good racing. There was some rubber and marbles out on the top groove and they did a great job cleaning it off and giving the fans the best that they could."
CONSISTENCY HAS BEEN THERE SINCE THE CHASE STARTED. "You've got to step up to the plate and race hard each of these final 10. We had a regular season and now we have a playoff and right now we haven't had a bad finish. I hope that we can stay away from that and run consistently for the win. We could have won earlier today, but the setup just abused the front tires too greatly and that took our chances away, but to finish top five was great."
MARK MARTIN - No. 6 Viagra Taurus (Finished 12th)
"We ran good. It's a shame that three weeks in a row we've run better than we finished. It's kind of a shame. If we want to win this championship, we need to finish better than we've run and some of these guys have been doing that. We were a fifth to seventh place car easy, but we lost a little track position and then we didn't get a chance to race it the whole last 100 laps. Our car was great on the long run. It was incredible. I would come from 15th to fifth or sixth on a 70-lap run or something. If we would have gone green that last 70 or 80 laps, we could have got back into the top 10 - probably close to fifth. Our car never did slow down. It would keep on coming and I was real proud of that. I thought we ran good for me at Martinsville, we just didn't finish that good."
DALE JARRETT - No. 88 UPS Taurus (Finished 37th)
"It was a frustrating day. We weren't great, but we weren't terrible. I got shuffled out and got a run off of two on the outside and got myself a hole, but I got turned around and then got piled into. It was a frustrating day, but if you race at this long enough you're gonna have some of those. This is a place where you can have that and in light of everything else, it kind of doesn't matter."
ELLIOTT SADLER - No. 38 M&M's Taurus (Finished 32nd)
WHAT HAPPENED? "I just saw a lot of smoke. My spotter told me to go high and that's probably where Joe ended up at. It's just a frustrating day. We just missed it on pit strategy a little bit and then Robby just cut down on me and spun me out. I don't really understand that. Well, I do understand that, it's Robby Gordon. It's tough to do it here in Virginia. I love racing in front of this crowd, but you just can't keep running in the back all day here. Something will happen to you and it finally bit us."
CARL EDWARDS - No. 99 Roush Racing Taurus (Finished 24th)
"It was a lot of fun, really. We ran into somebody there in the pits and that kind of set us back for the second half of the race, but the thing was really awesome. I had a good time and I think we'll do really good next time we come. I learned a lot, but this is a tough place."
WHAT HAPPENED WITH EARNHARDT, JR. DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE RACE. "I think he needed a caution pretty bad. We were about to get lapped, so, in a way, it was probably better for both of us, but I still had to run up there and run into his door and let him know that I don't appreciate him spinning me out. He's in the points chase and they're doing everything they can, but there was a lot of that stuff going on today. It's a wild race track."
RICKY RUDD - No. 21 Motorcraft Taurus (Finished 14th)
"When we started the race we were so far out in left field that I don't know how that happened. Everytime we turned around we got spun out by somebody. We got spun out like twice and then I got in the incident with Robby Gordon. I don't know. Even though our car wasn't that great, we had track position until we got spun out. We came from a long way back to finish 14th or 15th. At the end, I don't know, Stewart had tires and I guess he thought everybody was supposed to get out of his way."
