Tony Raines, No. 96 DLP®HDTV Monte Carlo SS - Qualified 12th
"I'm still shaking and not that it was a scary lap. It's just the first race out of the box. You want to do well all the time. I kind of over drove it just a little bit. If Philippe (Lopez -crew chief) is happy and the team is happy, it's good for me."
"I'm real pleased with that. If we could just repeat what we did in practice maybe we could get a top 15. A few guys have picked up and few of them went slower. So hopefully if we can get in that top 15 starting position, that'd be great. For my first race, I was more nervous getting into the car for qualifying than I've been in a long time. It wasn't a scary lap, all this has been going on and I've been trying to get this behind me and it feels a lot better."
Kyle Busch, No. 5 Kellogg's Monte Carlo SS - Qualified 17th
"I thought we might have a little bit better lap than that. I thought the car had a capability of a little more. It was a pretty good lap for us and if we can hold on to the top-10 starting spot, it will give us a good starting spot. It will help us get a good pit selection and I think we will have a good starting spot for the race."
Jeff Burton, No 31 Cingular Wireless Monte Carlo SS - Qualified 20th
"Going out early is never a good thing. We made our car as fast as we could in practice so that is a good thing. It didn't help us by going out third but there is nothing we can do about that. You just start where you start and get the most out of it. It is a tough race track, demanding race track."
Joe Nemechek, No. 01 U.S. Army Monte Carlo SS - Qualified 22nd
"It was pretty slick out there, just not a lot to get a hold off. A lot more slippery than it was in practice. Not what we were looking for but now we will work on our race setup."
ON 400th NNCS START: "It doesn't seem like I could have been here long enough to make 400 starts, but I have. I ran a couple races in 1993 and have been here ever since. It is pretty good.
