"That's good for me here at Martinsville. The M&M's guys have brought me a great race car and we think it will be real good Sunday. We just really want to do good in front of this Virginia crowd. We've got a lot of support in this part of the country and I love coming to Virginia short-tracks. I just want to do good for them, so, hopefully, we'll have a good day come Sunday."

YOU PICKED UP TWO-TENTHS ON THE SECOND LAP. "Yeah, it got away from me a little bit under braking on the first lap. I thought I messed it up a little bit on the second lap too, but it wasn't that bad. That was a good half-tenth better than what we practiced. At this point, I don't have a clue where that will end up, but I was gonna be happy if we did better than our practice speed, so we'll take it. We ran this car at Vegas and tested it a little bit last week at a short track. We ran it a little bit and it's not bad."
MATT KENSETH - No. 17 DEWALT Power Tools Taurus (Qualified 34th)
WHERE DO YOU GO FROM HERE? "We tried some different stuff and it didn't really work out today. Some of it we probably didn't realize until it was too late to go qualify, so we'll put it back to some more conventional stuff like we used to race here and like what my teammates are racing and we'll work on the race tomorrow. It's just a starting spot and not a finishing spot, so we'll just look at it like that and try to do a better job tomorrow and Sunday."
RICKY RUDD - No. 21 Motorcraft Taurus (Qualified 19th)
"That's a little quicker than we ran in practice and it wasn't bad. We just needed to turn a little bit better in the middle of the corner. It seemed to be a lot of how much scuffing you did with your tires. In hindsight, maybe we needed to scuff just a little bit more. Each lap I ran it got quicker and quicker, so I'm pretty happy with that. This is definitely a fast race car. I think the Motorcraft Ford is gonna race well. It may not qualify good, but it's gonna race exceptionally well. It just seemed to have that good feel to it."
KURT BUSCH - No. 97 Rubbermaid Taurus (Qualified 36th)
"We picked up from our time in practice. It's really an odd place to qualify at, that's for sure. Martinsville Speedway will challenge you in every which way. As soon as we untape this thing, it's gonna run sixties all day and that's what it takes to win races here so we never qualify worth of anything. I don't know what kind of word to throw in there, but it's funny, I thought the car drover perfectly and, yet, we might be taking a provisional. Hopefully, it will do what I think it will in race trim, which is to run sixties all day long."
WHAT ABOUT COMING THROUGH THE FIELD? "We've done it many times before. I don't think I've ever been better than 35th on the chart here in qualifying, so it's the same old story. We'll do the same routine."
DALE JARRETT - No. 88 UPS Taurus (Qualified 39th)
"It was just driver error. The one thing you tell yourself not to do is overdrive getting into these corners. My car felt really good. I thought I had a spot picked out to back off and I wouldn't lock the brakes up, but I got in there a little harder and locked the brakes out. I was out of the groove after that. Unfortunately, it came on my second lap and that should be your fastest, so it was just a driver mistake. I'll just have to try to make up for it on Sunday."
JEFF BURTON - No. 99 CITGO Taurus (Qualified 10th)
"We really worked today. We could be really good on the first lap or really good on the third lap, but we never could be good all the way through. We went to make another run towards the end of practice and we kind of got messed up with when practice was gonna end. So we made a few little changes based on our best run earlier in the day, which was on our third lap rather than our first lap. It was really loose the first lap-and-a-half, but then it gets better with that setup. The other setup we went faster on our first lap, but it wasn't any good on the second or third, so that was the best compromise. That's the best time we've had today. We picked up a good tenth-and-a-half from what our best practice lap was and that's really good."
GREG BIFFLE - No. 16 Grainger Taurus (Qualified 20th)
"I thought the track would have more grip than that. We haven't really had a problem with forward grip, but there we were spinning up off and couldn't really get a hold of it. The car turned real good around the corner and I thought we were gonna have quite a bit better time, but I just couldn't get the power down."
