KENNY WALLACE (No. 23 Stacker2 Dodge Intrepid)
NOTE: Wallace recorded the fastest lap in Saturday's Happy Hour at Martinsville Speedway. He'll start ninth in Sunday's Virginia 500.
"I really know what I need here. When I really know what I need it helps me. Some of the bigger tracks, the mile and a halves where aero is such a key it's hard for me to help. If you're off anywhere I can't fix it. On the short tracks, I can overcome things that aren't exactly right.
"You've got to be able to turn and get a lot of forward bite. You've got to be willing to drive the car a little tighter than you want it to be. When you get the car turning too good then you get it too loose. You've got to be willing to turn the wheel to the left a lot. It's hard because there's a fine line. If you turn the wheel too much, you can bust it loose.
"We tried some stuff there at the end that gave me a lot of forward bite and made it push a little bit, so we might make an adjustment and see what happens. I never feel good about these races because they're too competitive. I probably worry too much. I think we've got a good pit stall for qualifying ninth. I really don't like pitting in that corner unless I'm on the pole or second. There's a lot of chaos in that corner."
WARD BURTON (No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid)
"We had some bad luck in practice this morning and wrecked the primary car. We went to a backup and got some practice in Happy Hour. We need to work on it some more, but it's a long race. The only thing now is we've got to go to the rear of the field, and it's even harder to stay out of trouble back there. It's a shame we had to go to the backup, but that's the way it goes sometimes."
BILL DAVIS (Car owner Bill Davis Racing Dodge Intrepids)
"It's a shame because the 22 had a good qualifying run and a good car. It's nobody's fault. These guys will just have to dig hard all day and get track position. We stayed out a bunch last year. Usually you're in more trouble on pit road here than you are on the race track. We made it work for us last year, so maybe we can do it again.
"This is a great track for Kenny, and they've got him a real good piece. He qualified in the top 10. I heard him bragging on the car, so we're looking for him to have a good day. I think Kenny has a better understanding for what he needs on the short tracks. There are some short tracks where Kenny Wallace is as good as anybody in the garage."
