Mark Martin and the No. 6 Roush Ford team posted the hottest lap during Nextel Cup happy hour. Cooler temperatures slowed speeds, but Martin's lap of 166.298 mph topped the speed chart.

Martin qualified 20th, but was optimistic that his team would have a good run on Sunday.

"It's a little tougher than it used to be," said Martin. "We'll probably get used to it, but I think it's always gonna be a little bit tougher with that 30 inches gone. It's gonna be an interesting day Sunday."

Scott Wimmer, Rusty Wallace, Ryan Newman and Greg Biffle complete the top five fastest racers.

"There are so many variables with the aero package and tires and shocks," said Biffle. "There's a lot of stuff going on and we're trying to sort through all of that. I think we're definitely on the right track, though. We had a good run at Atlanta and we ran good here in the fall, so we're pretty excited about that."

Pole sitter Kasey Kahne brushed the walls between turns one and two in the morning practice session, and did not climb back to top form for the final run. He was only 9th fastest.

Kahne sustained minimal right front damage, "The car is fine. The crew did a great job getting the car ready to go back out."
