Hampton, GA (March 10, 2001) - Michael Waltrip and the No.99 Aaronis "Dream Machine" team had a stellar performance at this weekend's Aaronis 312 Busch race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
During practice sessions at Atlanta, Waltripis times were in the top fifteen. Making continual improvements, the crew worked hard on the Aaronis "Dream Machine" Chevrolet to improve speed by changing gears, shocks, and springs.
Waltrip started the event 9th and felt confident he would be a contender for the win on Saturday. When the green flag dropped, Waltrip wasted no time breaking into the top five. He was a little loose, so the team made an air pressure adjustment on the first round of pit stops. Then the Michael Waltrip show began as he power-housed his No. 99 Aaronis "Dream Machine" around the track, passing the competition, and gaining track distance over the entire field.
Waltrip continued on his charge until he brushed the wall in turn two forcing him to make his last pit stop a few laps early. He went from the top position to 10th after the incident. Again, wasting no time Waltrip began picking off position after position. With two laps to go, he was 4th, running laps faster than the leader. With one lap to go,Waltrip put the pressure on then 3rd place Todd Bodine, causing him to slip and Waltrip moved to 3rd. Waltrip said, "We had a really good car and we would have won if I had not brushed the wall on lap 160."
