RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 39 HAAS AUTOMATION/U.S.ARMY IMPALA SS, met with members of the media at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and discussed racing at NHMS and the Brickyard.
TALK ABOUT RACING AT NEW HAMPSHIRE THIS WEEKEND: "I have always enjoyed this track. I got my first win here and after a long winless streak, got another one here and I am on another long winless streak, it would be nice to get another one here."
DO YOU LIKE COMING TO NEW ENGLAND TO RACE? "I like it. I really enjoy the area. I enjoy the trees and Lake Winnipesaukee. To me, it is just a great place. Obviously, it is a race track I have had success at so enjoy it. I think they have done a great job with the race track itself to make the racing better. It is a lot of fun for me. It is a place that I typically qualify well at and it is a track position race track. If you start up front, typically, it is a short race, you can stay up front. Just do our best here like we always do."
TALK ABOUT THE UPCOMING BRICKYARD 400 AT INDIANAPOLIS: "I am looking forward to it. I think Goodyear has a good tire for it. I think the racing will be back to the way it was. It is still not the raciest race track we go too, but you can make passes. You can work your way to the front there. We'll look forward to that as well."
IS THAT FORWARD TO THAT RACE BEING FROM INDIANA? "Oh yea. To me it is not necessarily because it is in Indiana, it is the history of auto racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I'm a big fan of the old Watson Roadsters from the 60s and things like that. That, to me, is one of the coolest things about being able to go out and drive around on the same tire tracks, per se, that those guys, Jim Hurtubise and all the greats, A.J. Foyt, Parnelli Jones, used to drive on."
TALK ABOUT RUNNING IN THE MODIFIEDS AGAIN AND WHAT IS YOUR GOAL: "To have fun, that is goal. That is what I am here for the whole weekend, but the modifieds...the race cars are such a blast to drive. It seems like they go faster in the corners than they do on the straightaways and that is what a driver likes to feel. It is a great series, has a lot of great drivers in it. We qualified sixth yesterday. Just looking forward to it. It is a different kind of race than we have here in the Cup car because we can bump draft and draft so much. Here in the Cup cars, you really can't draft, it is just about passing and it is more of a track position race. With the modifieds, it seems like you can do a little bit more racing and a little bit more passing just with the combination that they have. I will be running in a midget tonight at Lee Speedway tonight as well...if it doesn't rain."
