YOUR COMING OFF A GREAT WIN LAST WEEKEND AT INFINEON: "It was an awesome win. I felt like the race out there was really competitive and it was a good show for the fans. It was exciting. The double-file restarts were exciting, so it was a good day for everybody and we ended up with our first win of the season which was really nice. It had been a while since we were in Victory Lane. To see Richard Petty back in Victory Lane and the excitement he had on his face as well as our entire Budweiser team was really exciting and cool for me."
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT RACING UP HERE IN NEW ENGLAND? "To me, this is a good track. The fans show up, they're really excited about racing up here and they support the race. It's the only track of the season that's a flat one-mile that races the way this place races. It's nice to hit tracks that are a little bit different than the normal ones. I really enjoy it. We've had some good runs here. I feel like we're on a good roll right now. We've been on a good roll since about Darlington. We've hit on some things and should have good weekend."
WHAT ARE YOU ANTICIPATING AT INDY FOR THE BRICKYARD 400? "I'm looking forward to the Allstate 400; it should be another great race. Last year was a little bit messed up with the tires, but they've fixed it. Goodyear's put a ton of time into that. The teams have put a ton of time testing up there and I feel like the tire is as good as anything that I've been on up there. So, that's gonna be another awesome race."
HAS THE MOOD GOTTEN BETTER WITH THE RECENT SUCCESS THAT THE TEAM HAS ENCOUNTRED? "Everybody is always working hard and they're (RPM) giving us the cars to go out there and win with. We've made huge gains throughout the season with the car and the engine. I've felt like the last month-and-a-half, we've been very competitive. To go out and get a win (at Infineon) like that is just a ton of momentum and confidence for everybody. We had a lunch at the shop this week with all the employees who played a huge part in our victory last week and everyone's excited and looking forward to this week. We had three cars in the top 10 which is awesome for Richard Petty Motorsports. I think that gets all the teams excited and all the people excited. We look forward to it. I think it's going to be another good weekend. We want to just keep improving and keep making sure that we have the points to get in the Chase when it comes around."
DO YOU FEEL YOUR OPEN DISPLEASURE WITH THE TEAMS PERFORMANCE A FEW MONTHS AGO HAD AN EFFECT ON YOUR TEAMS RECENT SUCCESS? "It's hard to say if it's related to it or not, but it definitely didn't hurt. Sometimes that kind of stuff can hurt a team, the moral or things like that. Man, it was time...everybody was kind of beating around the bush a bit and it was time to say, 'Hey, our cars are not good enough.' A lot of the people (at RPM) were thinking that our engines and cars were as good as Jimmie Johnson's or Jeff Gordon's. It was like, 'Come on, they're not.' Once we went out there and I said some of the things I said, whether it helped or not, things have changed. We have some really nice race cars now. Our engine program has come a long way since then. The cars' setups have come a long way. I've worked just as hard trying to be prepared each weekend and give the right feedback and it has been paying off. I think that it has worked out well."
"The way that I've always been is just work with people. I've learned from people and if I see something or whatever, I'll go and tell the person that can fix that. If myself and Kenny Francis (crew chief) are saying, 'We need this and we're not getting it', then at some point you have to make a statement and that was the only way to really get things across at the time was the way I felt. Since then we've been better. We've had good race cars and they've realized that yeah, our cars weren't as nice as they thought they were and now they're getting back to where they need to be."
