DESPITE NOT MAKING CHASE, RIGGS STILL HUNGRY FOR WIN

LOUDON, N.H. (Sept. 12, 2005)- Regardless of the fact that he isn't in the Chase for the Nextel Cup, Scott Riggs believes the final 10 races are just as important to the Valvoline race team as they are to any other.

"We may not be in the Chase, but we've still got something to prove," said Riggs. "We've known since the beginning of the season that this Valvoline team is capable of a win, and we still believe that. That's why we're going to continue racing as hard as ever to get there."

After a strong start to his sophomore season with three top-10 finishes in the first five events, Riggs' team has struggled, with only a pole position at Martinsville Speedway in April and a second-place finish in Michigan's fall event to brag about since then.

"We've had some great runs this year but haven't been able to get to the checkered flag and that's what matters," explained Riggs. "We lost a couple of engines, got collected in other people's wrecks, and missed the setup a few times, but we've been competitive.

"Everyone's ultimate goal is to make the Chase for the Nextel Cup. But we didn't. So now we focus on what we can do to make ourselves better and put ourselves in contention every week."

The team's first chance will be in this weekend's Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway.

"There are teams out there racing for the championship or racing for the 11th position in points, and we aren't one of them. Those guys will be out tip-toeing around trying not to make mistakes. We can go out, be aggressive, and maybe slip up and win a race."

"Don't get me wrong, the Valvoline team wants to be in the Chase-- but don't count us out because we're not," continued Riggs. "We're still a good, competitive team. And Chase or not, we're just as hungry for a win now as we were before."

Sunday's Nextel Cup event will be broadcast live this on TNT beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET.
