Johnny Benson qualified second in the #10 Valvoline Pontiac Grand Prix for tomorrow's New Hampshire 300 NASCAR Winston Cup race at New Hampshire International Speedway. This is Benson's best qualifying effort of the season and his best start since he started second at Las Vegas in 2001.
JOHNNY BENSON, NO. 10 VALVOLINE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
HOW DOES YOUR CAR FEEL?
"I'm happy with the car, but we always strive to make it better. We've got a couple of areas that we're going to work on and we'll see how it runs tomorrow."
IT'S NOT WHERE YOU START BUT WHERE YOU FINISH, BUT YOU MUST FEEL GOOD ABOUT QUALIFYING ON THE FRONT ROW.
"I feel way good about starting up front. We've always been near the top of the practice sheet going into qualifying, but I haven't been able to get it done in qualifying. (Crew chief) James (Ince) made some adjustments to the car that seemed to be to my liking and when it came time to qualify, we were right there where we needed to be, so we're real happy with that. James and the guys are just doing a tremendous job."
ALTHOUGH YOU DIDN'T RUN HERE IN JULY BECAUSE OF INJURY, YOU'VE HAD SOME GOOD RUNS HERE IN THE PAST. WHY IS THIS A GOOD TRACK FOR YOU?
"I just think we have great cars. Jerry (Nadeau) had a pretty good race for us here in July, and we appreciated him stepping in. This weekend the Valvoline Pontiac's been running good, the guys have been working hard on it, and hopefully we can race good with it tomorrow."
YOUR THOUGHTS ON TOMORROW'S RACE.
"I'm happy with the car, but we just don't know. We just have to get in the race and see what happens and I'll tell you more afterwards."
THIS HAS BEEN A FRUSTRATING SEASON OR YOU MISSING SEVERAL RACES BECAUSE OF YOUR INJURY. YOU MUST FEEL GOOD ABOUT RUNNING SO WELL.
"Any time you're in a race car, it makes you feel good. Just some times are better than others."
