TRAVIS KVAPIL, NO. 77 KODAK/JASPER ENGINES DODGE CHARGER, STARTED 27TH, SPUN ON LAP 104 AND MADE CONTACT WITH THE WALL "I just messed up. After that pit stop, we got the car where it was pretty good, we could run some pretty good lap times.
TRAVIS KVAPIL, NO. 77 KODAK/JASPER ENGINES DODGE CHARGER, STARTED 27TH, SPUN ON LAP 104 AND MADE CONTACT WITH THE WALL
"I just messed up. After that pit stop, we got the car where it was pretty good, we could run some pretty good lap times. We were passing some good cars and making our way up through there. I just got loose trying to pass Dale Jarrett and over-corrected and ran out of room trying to save it. I did it all on my own just trying to make a pass. It's disappointing because we had a good car, not a great car, and we were going to finish top-15 or top-20. I just screwed up."
KASEY KAHNE, NO. 9 DODGE DEALERS/UAW DODGE CHARGER, STARTED 21ST, WRECKED BY NO. 5 CAR ON LAP 166. THE DAMAGE ENDED THEIR DAY.
"We just got taken out. There are times when things happen and you end up crashing and hitting other cars, but we just got taken out. That's too bad for all the Dodge Dealers, McDonald's, Stanley, Siemens, everybody that supports this team. We're just trying to get top 10s."
Was the second incident payback?
"When you just wipe somebody out, I don't care what happens, you know, Dale Jarrett, when he got back at Newman, that's just the way you've got to do it. If people are going to run you over for no reason and think they're going to get away with it, you just go out there and ruin their day, too. That's they way I feel."
"We were trying to get a top 10 for the end of the year, man, we want to get in the top 15. We just ran out of room and got wiped out by Kyle Busch. We just got cleaned out by Kyle Busch. He ran us over. I was trying to pass a car and he just ran into the back of us and turned us around. We could have had a top 10, I think, we had a good enough car to run top 10, and just got taken out."
What actually happened in the first incident?
"He went into turn one -- I was trying to pass a car -- and he just turned me around and backed us into the wall and destroyed a really good race car."
How would you describe that kind of driving?
"You're in Nextel Cup because you're a good race car driver and you know what you're doing. That wasn't that. Kyle's a great driver and he knows what he's doing -- he just wasn't doing it right there."
RUSTY WALLACE, NO. 2 MILLER LITE DODGE CHARGER, STARTED SEVENTH, FINISHED SIXTH
HOW WAS YOUR DAY? "We brought it home in sixth place, but we thought we had a better car than that. I just got behind early and that was about it. We had a lot of challenges today, but I was able to get back from them, and that was good." HOW IMPORTANT IS THIS FOR YOUR CHAMPIONSHIP CAMPAIGN? "We needed a top five or a top 10 to kick it off and we had a top 10, which is good. That was a drag race, wasn't it?"
JAMIE MCMURRAY, NO. 42 HAVOLINE/TEXACO DODGE CHARGER, STARTED 20TH, FINISHED 12TH
DISCUSS YOUR RUN: "We ran about like we have the last four months. Unfortunately, we had to stay out on gas and salvage a good day. We weren't very fast again. WHAT HAPPENED ON THAT EARLY INCIDENT? "I have no idea what happened. Some people slowed down and other people didn't slow down and you get run into. It's just part of it. It's very frustrating, still."
JEREMY MAYFIELD, NO. 19 DODGE DEALERS/UAW DODGE CHARGER, STARTED EIGHTH, FINISHED 16TH
"Well, the good news is that we started the Chase out better than we did last year. The bad news is that we battled the car all day long. We just couldn't get it handling right. We really wanted to come out of here with a top five or a top 10, but at least we didn't come out with a DNF. That late caution really hurt us. We could have had a much better finish if it hadn't been for that."
SLUGGER LABBE, CREW CHIEF, NO. 19 DODGE DEALERS/UAW DODGE CHARGER
We were committed to staying out (running fifth) but the No. 5 car hit the cone on the way into the pits, brought out the caution and screwed everything up. We could have made it on fuel. Maybe we didn't deserve it. Today, we run horrible. We don't need to be like this. The car hauled a _ _ at Richmond, brought it here and it's like it's never seen the track before. Got to get to work on our stuff...this is not acceptable. Maybe we should have stayed out when the caution came out on 280. I do know this is not acceptable, not a good day.
STERLING MARLIN, NO. 40 COORS LIGHT DODGE CHARGER, STARTED 15TH, FINISHED 11TH
"We really had a good car today. The Coors Light team worked really hard. It looked like we had some good strategy working in our favor, then that late caution came out. We're happy with a top-11 car and we're looking forward to next week."
