Loudon: Ford teams qualifying quotes

KURT BUSCH - No. 97 IRWIN/Sharpie Taurus (Qualified 5th) - "I hope that the temperature will come up a little bit and we have a better shot at a top-10 start, but if we're in the top 15, that's good. There's definitely a different feel all around...

KURT BUSCH - No. 97 IRWIN/Sharpie Taurus (Qualified 5th) - "I hope that the temperature will come up a little bit and we have a better shot at a top-10 start, but if we're in the top 15, that's good. There's definitely a different feel all around this time just because of the impound. We couldn't stick to our normal plan, so we had to change the car quite a bit from last year's races."

MATT KENSETH - No. 17 DeWalt Taurus (Qualified 16th) - "It wasn't very good, but we didn't work on qualifying yesterday. We struggled a lot and changed a lot of stuff for today. We were just really loose." WHAT ABOUT TOMORROW? "This is probably the worst we've run in the last three or four years. We made some changes, so I don't know what it will bring tomorrow. But if we run like we ran yesterday, we weren't very good."

RICKY RUDD - No. 21 Motorcraft Genuine Parts Taurus (Qualified 14th) - "I don't think it's too bad. It looks like it was an advantage to go early today because the Busch cars had just gotten the track rubbered back in. It was overcast. That would have been the ideal situation, but that's about like what we ran in practice yesterday. This track is really kind of funny sometimes. You let the track sit a little bit and it slows up a bunch and there's no grip, then you've got grip. It's kind of hard to read for one lap, but they made some changes on our car yesterday afternoon and I like what I'm feeling for race setup. I didn't like what I was feeling yesterday afternoon for race setup, so I think they made some improvements on the car."

ELLIOTT SADLER - No. 38 M&M's Taurus (Qualified 3rd) - YOU MESSED UP LAP TWO? "Yeah, I got such a great run off turn two that I drove into turn three a little bit too hard. I didn't want to leave anything on the table, but that's a great run for us. That's gonna be somewhere in the top 10, hopefully. The guys built me a brand new car, so I'm really proud of everybody on the M&M's team - everybody at the fab shop back home. I didn't know it was gonna qualify that good, but I think we've got a great car for Sunday so I'm looking forward to that."

YOU'VE STRUGGLED WITH QUALIFYING RECENTLY, BUT THIS IS MORE OF WHAT WE'VE COME TO EXPECT. "Yeah, we've qualified so great on short tracks this year. It seems like we're getting better and better on that. Now we need to work on our mile-and-a-halves, which is opposite of the way we used to be. I'm really happy with the guys. They're doing a great job. We'll just keep working at it. They built me a new car to come here and we really didn't work on qualifying that much. We kind of just threw a little package together and it worked out for us, so I'm very happy with my guys. I'm very proud of my team."

CARL EDWARDS - No. 99 Office Depot Taurus (Qualified 20th) - "We didn't make any practice qualifying attempts, so, to be honest with you, I'm pretty happy with that lap. I think that if we had one more crack at it we could be a tenth or two faster and that would be a top 10, so I'm pretty happy with it. I'm not the greatest at this race track, so I'm really proud of my guys for getting us through that. Hopefully, it will be inside the top 20. With no qualifying practice, I'm pretty proud of that."

OPTIMISTIC ABOUT THE RACE? "Yeah. I feel like we started at the rock bottom yesterday. We were not fast at all and we worked really hard on it. By the end of the day the car felt great, so I think it should be OK."

GREG BIFFLE - No. 16 National Guard/Subway Taurus (Qualified 9th) - "I'm relatively happy with that lap. I think I left something on the table down there in three and four. It was a different shock package we put on the car from what we ran earlier this year, so I wasn't sure what to expect from that, and we lengthened the skirt out a little bit. I think I lost a little time in three and four on that second lap. I felt like I could have been maybe about a .20, which would put us around where Elliott Sadler was, so, overall, I'm pretty happy with that lap. Depending on what the weather does here, there are some big clouds in the sky, and now the sun is behind the clouds again. We had to go when it was sunny, unfortunately, but hopefully that will get us up in the top 15. I'm not sure if it's gonna hold on for that or not, but we'll see." HOW FOCUSED IS THIS TEAM RIGHT NOW? "We want to be back in the lead, but we're not gonna worry ourselves about that. We're gonna continue to just get good finishes - as solid as we can get - top fives, top 10s. Unfortunately, we were running third at Chicago and ended up 11th. We had a way better car than that, but, unfortunately, those were the cards we were dealt. We'd like to lead the points. I'm not gonna say we wouldn't, but we're just gonna do the best we can and if we lead them, we lead them. We want to be leading them after the last race of the season."

CAN YOU STAY AGGRESSIVE BECAUSE YOU'RE PRETTY WELL LOCKED IN FOR THE CHASE? "Yeah. We're gonna stay aggressive. We're gonna do all we can do. We're gonna take chances, so to speak, with pit calls and things like that. We're gonna try to win races and get the best finish we can."
