AJ Allmendinger Takes Tenth at New Hampshire
Sixth Consecutive Top-15 finish for No. 43 Ford
Loudon, NH 29 June, 2010- AJ Allmendinger gave the No. 43 Berlin City Auto Group Ford Fusion a great run on Sunday afternoon at New Hampshire International Speedway as he ran strong all day long before fighting his way to a 10th place finish. The result is the sixth consecutive top-15 result for AJ in the Richard Petty Motorsports No. 43 Ford and moved him up to 21st in the unofficial NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship standings as the battle for the Chase intensifies with the summer heat.
After starting from 28th on the grid, AJ moved steadily forward on the one-mile flat track in the Granite State to break into the top ten just past the 75 lap mark. He never looked back, keeping in the top ten through several long green flag runs and as the field cycled through green flag pit stops. While he and crew chief Mike Shiplett kept working on some rear end grip and fighting occasional front end chatter, the No. 43 Berlin City Auto Group Ford was regularly one of the fastest cars out on track. That pace saw him firmly in the top five in the closing laps as he ran fourth, two seconds clear from the pack with just over ten laps to go.
Unfortunately, it would not be a clear run to the checkered flag as the field was slowed following contact between the 18 and the 31 car. AJ made an impressive high-speed lane change mid-corner to keep the No. 43 out of harms way as the cars spun ahead of him. After taking two tires on a final pit stop, AJ was looking to close the day with a strong finish but contact from the No. 39 sent him backwards before he fought back to take tenth at the finish.
"If you would have told me at the beginning of the day we were gonna finish 10th, I would have said, 'Perfect.' When you kind of run top five or top six all day and you finish 10th, it doesn't feel quite as good, said AJ. "So I'm disappointed not to come out of this race with a result that shows really how strong we were today, but I'm still very happy with our performance. We had the top finish for Ford and we were consistent all day long. We had a fast car through some very long green flag runs so I'm proud of the pace the Berlin City Auto Group Ford had today. This is a great race for us to build on, and we couldn't be going to a better place to do that--we had a very fast car in the 500, so I'm really looking forward to getting down to Daytona next weekend. I'm just proud of everybody on this 43 race team. Thank you to Ford, and we had Berlin City Auto Groups on the car today--the car looked good--Insignia, Best Buy and Valvoline, PVA--we've got them on the car next week--so everybody that supports this race team, thank you."
