MARK MARTIN --6-- Viagra Taurus (Qualified 17th)

"That's a pretty decent time. I wish I could have squeezed a little bit more out of it in the tunnel turn and in turn three, but I didn't. I got a really good turn one, but I think this draw is really gonna hurt us. It looks like the clouds are coming back in and it was starting to heat up when we ran. We'll take it. It's gonna be in the middle of the pack or the front side of the middle, so that was a good run for us."

RICKY RUDD --28-- Havoline Taurus (Qualified 2nd)

"That's about what we ran in practice. We left about a tenth on the table out there. The front end pushed over there in the tunnel turn and probably cost us a tenth. If we get beat by a tenth, I'll be upset, but it's gonna put us up there close to the front. If it's not up front, it's gonna be right there. We're happy with that."

ANY DILEMMA OVER THE CLOUD VERSUS SUN? "This is about like it was in practice earlier. We had a rain shower and then it cleared up. The track has been really consistent all day." YOU'RE FAST. "So far we're fast, but there are still some good race cars to go. This Havoline Taurus has been really fast. We came here off the truck and weren't quite as good as we needed to be and they made a major change on the race car and really fixed it. That was not my best lap. I probably hurt us about a tenth of a second. I got a little greedy over there in that tunnel turn and drove it too hard and it shoved the nose a little bit. It didn't do that in practice. Maybe it was the cool tires or whatever, but it shoved the nose and we lost a little momentum. Hopefully, it'll hold up but I don't know."

JEFF BURTON --99-- Citgo Taurus (Qualified 33rd)

"That's disappointing. We weren't all that fast in practice, but I missed my lap in my practice qualifying run. I gave up something there so we didn't change anything and the thing drove terribly. I don't know. We're not on top of our game at the moment and any little slip hurts us a lot because we're not where we need to be anyway. We're working real hard to get there, but we're not there right now."

KIRK SHELMERDINE --27-- Naturally Fresh Taurus (Qualified 44th)

"We really did the same thing we did at Chicago. We had been tight the whole practice and we adjusted it too much between practice and qualifying and got it too loose. I kept it under me at Chicago and ran slow. Here I was determined to make a good lap either way and it just got away."

ELLIOTT SADLER --21-- Motorcraft Taurus (Qualified 32nd)

"I was kind of disappointed with what we ran. The lap felt faster than that. We were pretty loose in all three corners, which usually means you're fast. But it was just now what we were looking for. Hopefully, that'll get in the top 30, top 25 if we're very, very lucky, we'll see what the weather does and kinda go from there. It was not at all what we were looking for, but hopefully make up for it on Sunday."

DALE JARRETT --88-- UPS Taurus (Qualified 15th)

"I hit two out of three corners, that's not bad, but I kind of missed turn three. It's a good car. We made some adjustments and it was a little bit better. It was still on the free side, so we've got to work on our race setup and see if we can fix that a little bit and get ready to go after 'em on Sunday."

IS THIS THE SAME CAR YOU WON WITH IN JUNE? "You would think that if you win a race you'd come back with the same car, but Todd and our guys built a brand new one that we thought was a little bit better, so, hopefully it will be. We're going to have to be better with Ricky Rudd and these other guys, if we're gonna battle with them right down to the end."

DAVE BLANEY --77-- Jasper Engines Taurus (Qualified 21st)

"It felt awful, to tell you the truth. In our last practice lap we actually had it feeling pretty good. I qualified at about the same speed as that last practice lap, but we gave up a bunch. We were so loose off and couldn't get into the corners that good. It felt worse than it ended up being. Who knows? It wasn't a good two laps for us, but it's no big deal because we'll get it in race trim and go."

MATT KENSETH --17-- DEWALT Power Tools Taurus (Qualified 22nd)

"I don't know where the speed is at. I didn't feel like I had anymore than that and felt like it was a great lap. Feel-wise, I didn't feel I could get anymore out of it. I was a little too loose. Maybe if we were a little tighter we could have run a little quicker, but I just feel like that's about all we had."

RICKY CRAVEN --32-- Tide Taurus (Qualified 16th)

"It was nice. The guys worked hard. We made quite a few changes right before qualifying. We lost the nose on the Tide Ford going through the tunnel turn. I expected the car to be tight and I was little tight getting into three, and then the qualifying lap was better. We got a little bit warm or I would have run a second lap and felt like maybe I could have improved it, but it was certainly an improvement over practice and I'm sure we'll improve it again for the race."

KURT BUSCH --97-- Rubbermaid Taurus (Qualified 23rd)

"It was a little different because we weren't in contention for the pole like we've been at every race track this year. We got weathered out last time we came here to attempt to qualify, so it wasn't all that bad. We unloaded ballistically fast, we just never picked up time. We're caught up between a rock and a hard place here -- aero versus chassis -- trying to figure out which way is more important. It was a good lesson today. We'll take where we end up in qualifying, hopefully it will be in the top 25 and we'll work our way towards the front."

RYAN NEWMAN --12-- ALLTEL Taurus (Qualified 8th)

"I got pretty loose there in the middle of turn one and that kind of set me back for one lap. The car did the same thing on the second lap, so I figured there was no sense in finishing it."

YOU'RE NOT HAPPY. "We definitely had the potential to be a lot faster. We came up here and really almost put one on them in the spring race here without any practice or qualifying at all, so, overall, it's disappointing but it's still a good qualifying run for the Mobil 1/ALLTEL Ford."

ANY IDEA WHY THE CAR DID WHAT IT DID? "The track is tough because there are three separate corners and each corner is a little different. It takes just one little thing in the setup to make that one corner go wrong."

RUSTY WALLACE --2-- Miller Lite Taurus (Qualified 9th)

"In practice we didn't have new tires on it. We put new tires on it and made a track bar adjustment and some air pressure stuff and that lit it up. It ran good."

YOU WANT A CHAMPIONSHIP DON'T YOU. "I want a championship real bad and we can do it this year. We just don't need to step on our you know what. We've just got to get after it and crank it up because we've got a good hot-rod, we've got a good team and strong engines. We just can't screw up because we've got 'em in our gun sights right now and I want to win this thing."
