The NASCAR community is mourning the loss Junie Donlavey.

Legendary NASCAR car owner Junie Donlavey has died at the age of 90. He was suffering from Alzheimer's disease and passed away Monday night in Richmond, according to his family.

Junie Donlavey was one of those true independent owners For an astonishing 55 years, he fielded cars in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series against the titans of the sport, totaling 863 starts. With all the odds against him, he somehow overcame it all and attained NASCAR glory on the 17th of May, 1981. Joey Ridley earned the legendary owner his first and only victory in the premier level of stock car racing.

Many of NASCAR's greats kicked off their careers with Donlavey. Overall, 64 racers have had the honor of getting behind the wheel of Donlavey's famous No. 90 car. Considering that, I guess it was fitting that God would call him home a couple months after his 90th birthday.

NASCAR HOF'ers, Sprint Cup champions, Daytona 500 winners, Indy 500 champions, Le Mans winners, Formula One racers, Americans, Brits, Germans, and the list goes on...

We'll miss you Junie. You were and always will be a legend.
