John Andretti was on RPM2Nite and he didn't sound like a driver who was going to be let go soon from a ride as rumors have stated. He and Cale sounded like the job will be Andrettis for a while.
I hear Robert Yates called a meeting today and told the team that he was not signing Ernie Irvan for 1998.
Wednesday night(7-2) on ESPN2, Kenny Irwin was interviewed. He flaty denied a 98 WC ride with Penske or Roush. As heard before, he said Penske told him he wasn't starting a second team. As far as Roush, Irwin hadn't really spoken to him.
I heard that in a recent issue of Area Auto Racing News(Trenton, NJ), in Ernie Saxton's column, he said that Western Auto was leaving Darrell Waltrip's team, which is not new. But he also says Western Auto wants to stay involved with Darrell in 1998 and beyond possibly with a personal service contract.
Here is what I hear about the Hendrick chassis: Actually all three Hendrick teams have their own versions of the new generation chassis. Each team gets a slightly different version of their base chassis with the only real differences being the seat mounting and location of the steering box. They have to move the steering box a little just for packaging due to the positions each driver likes the steering wheel. Other than that the chassis are the same. I hear the new chassis will not be run on the big tracks just yet in favor of a more proven speedway design.
I hear that the #2 Miller Lite team had to use Redline oil(instead of Mobil) in the Larry Wallace engine's they leased at Michigan? Same source says the #24 team did also? What is so special about Redline?
I hear that Sterling Marlin vacationed with Felix Sabates last week and he wants out of the #4 ride and has a contract offer in hand from SABCO.
