Marlin Wins UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (March 3, 2002) -- Sterling Marlin drove the Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T to his first victory of the 2002 NASCAR Winston Cup season in the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Marlin extended his first place lead in Winston Cup championship points to 75 points over rookie Ryan Newman.

The Coors Light Dodge started the event in 24th position and quickly moved into the top-10 by lap 33. Marlin eventually took over the lead on lap 132 and led a total of 37 laps of the 267-lap event. The Coors Light Dodge ran well all day and the crew made only two minor adjustments to the car. This is Marlin's first win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway; his previous best finish was third in 2001.

"All these guys did a great job today," Marlin said. "Everything worked good for us today. We changed the car this morning. We weren't real good yesterday. We probably had a 10th place car, so we decided to go for the win. We changed it up and hit right on it. We changed some springs and shocks. Daytona was a heart breaker, but the guys kept working real hard and we bounced back. When I saw that last caution I said, 'oh no, not again.' Everybody didn't pit because track position means so much. It worked out great."

Next on the schedule for the No. 40 Coors Light team is the MBNA America 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 10, 2002.
