HOW DID THINGS GO FOR YOU TODAY? "Really well. We got the pleasure of staying up front for most of the race and it was just an honor to be able to run up front with all these guys. We ran really well at Kansas last year and this is basically a sister track to Kansas and we were able to carry over a lot of notes from the Kansas race and that paid big dividends. We had something to start with and we had a really great test out here. We had great pit stops all day and it was great to be out front because it's so nice to be out front at a race track like this. When you get in traffic like we did at the end of the race, you've got guys trying to get you loose and guys trying to block you a little bit, so it was great to be up front most of the day." TALK
ABOUT RUNNING IN TRAFFIC ON A FLAT TRACK LIKE THIS? "You kind of have to watch the guy in front of you. You can run one lap and he might take you along just to get you a little pushy and the next lap he might try to trick you and enter a little bit different so you can exit different and get a good run on him. It's just things like that where coming off turn four and you've got to want to get up close to the wall and you might be able to trick him to go a little high and then you can turn down underneath him. Those situations occur all throughout the race, but usually in these 400 or 500-mile races they show up big at the end with track position."
WHAT'S IT LIKE HAVING JIMMY SPENCER ROLL UP BESIDE YOU? HE DID THAT EARLY IN THE RACE? "Basically, from the drop of the green flag to the checkers the drivers job is to race the race track. The competition usually takes care of itself. You focus on your race car and how it's turning and how it's accelerating. You'll have a good race car all day providing you can make the right changes, but whether it's Jimmy Spencer or Dale Earnhardt, Jr. or Rusty Wallace or whoever, it doesn't really matter. You watch different driver's characteristics. You'll watch Jimmy Spencer keep getting higher and higher and higher and I just kind of stayed and held down on the bottom and we were alright there the first run."
WHAT WENT THROUGH YOUR MIND WHEN HE PASSED YOU ON THE FIRST CAUTION? "I could have probably raced him back. He gave me the option of going and racing back or not, but it really wasn't important at that point. He had a faster race car and he was already in the process of going around me and I saw that he was gonna go around, I'm not even sure who was with me at the time -- Todd Bodine -- but it was one of those instances where you accept it and you work with a good race car and attack the race track, not the competition."
