YOU SEEMED TO STRUGGLE IN TRAFFIC THE LAST 25 LAPS AFTER RESTARTING SIXTH...WAS IT ALL AERO? "When you put stickers on and Dodge and Ford [cars] drive away from you, when we have four [fresh tires] and they get two, when we led half of the damn race? I don't know - you tell me. And, they let the '40' car speed on pit road and they don't get him, so I don't know what to tell you about it. If that wasn't clear that we are at a disadvantage, then I don't know that I've ever seen one (a disadvantage).
"We had a great car. We had a great car again and then what do we have? We had a top five. I know there are a lot of people that would love to be there, but...
"You let the '40' car speed on pit road and then you don't give the infraction and then he wins the race. We've been hollering that we need help and then guys that got only two tires that couldn't run all day long, when they wanted to they could just get up on the wheel and they'd go. That's aero - aero and tires when you get to that point. When you'd get 30, 40, 50 laps into a run like we were, we were as good or better than anybody. We showed that and we've been like that for two years now. But, I guess that's good enough."
WHAT DO YOU NEED DONE? "We need what everybody else has got. We need a little kick-out in the front and something in the back. Our car just skates around when it gets around other cars. It's not a very efficient car. It's an old car. It's been a great car. It's just frustrating and disappointing. It's a racetrack we love. The $1 million is just a bonus. You don't have to pay me anything to come here and run as hard as we did."
BOBBY LABONTE, NO. 18 INTERSTATE BATTERIES PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
"That was a sucky day and we came back and finished 12th. The only thing we could have done better was - I was racing with the '88' and the '99' and they finished like eighth and ninth (7th and 9th), so if I could have been up there with them it would have been a little bit better.
"We just sucked all day and never got a handle on it. The car was either too loose or too tight. We never could get it in the middle. I guess that's the way it is sometimes."
NEWT MOORE, CREW CHIEF, NO. 36 M&M'S PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
"That was very frustrating. We had a real good race car. I think we had a top five car again for the third week in a row. But, we just made a bad call on my part by staying out. We ran six or eight laps and then that caution came out. Then, Todd Bodine - he puts misery in somebody every week - cut our tire down and we had to pit under green. That just killed our whole day. We worked our way up to 26th or whatever, but that's not worth a flip."
IS IT HARD TO KEEP THE TEAM UP AFTER THREE TOUGH WEEKS TO START THE SEASON? "We throw things and we get mad. If we didn't, I'd be upset with everybody if they didn't because it just shows that we've got heart. It's a good team here. No, it's not hard. We're racers and we'll keep it up. That's not a problem - no problem at all."
