HOW MUCH OF THE RACETRACK DID YOU USE UP ON THAT QUALIFYING RUN? "A lot more than I wanted to. Turns one and two - two has been my worst corner all day, it seems like. I just used up a lot of racetrack. I was probably too slow in the center of the corner, was a little loose off of four and it all adds up to a slow lap."
JOHNNY BENSON, NO. 10 VALVOLINE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
"It was OK. We were just a little tight earlier [in practice]. (James Ince crew chief) - I have all the confidence in the world in him - he said, 'It's going to go.' It was just a little free, but I'm looking forward to the race. The Valvoline Pontiac should be really good in race trim. We weren't sure in qualifying trim - we thought we'd be OK, but I think we'll be good in the race."
THIS LOOKS LIKE IT COULD BE YOUR BEST OUTING OF THE YEAR SO FAR... "We're looking forward to it. We were looking forward to last weekend at Rockingham and felt pretty good about that. Because we wrecked at Daytona and still finished 10th there, we felt like we sort of stole a lot of spots we shouldn't have. But, it kind of balanced out at Rockingham. We really thought we were going to be in the top five there and weren't, so the first two weeks kind of balanced each other out."
ARE THERE AERODYNAMIC CHALLENGES YOU'RE CONCERNED ABOUT FOR SUNDAY? "It's the same as it's been. Ford, Dodge and Chevrolet have got the kick-out (front valance extension); the Pontiacs don't. That hurts you at a place like this, especially when you're following somebody. You might be able to catch the guy, but it's very hard to pass them. That's an on-going battle and they need to fix it. But, this is the race car we've got and we've got to deal with it. We've got to work on it and get it good. We'll just see how Sunday plays out."
TONY STEWART, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT PONTIAC GRAND PRIX
"The car was good. I just over-drove it - trying to hard. Todd Bodine put a number up there that forced us all to push a little harder and I pushed too hard. I didn't run a bad lap, by any means, but didn't run as good as I wanted to."
IT COULD BE WINDY ON SUNDAY, AS IT WAS IN PRACTICE THIS MORNING...HOW MUCH DOES THAT AFFECT THE CAR HERE? "It will definitely change the balance of it, for sure. But, it's just one of those things you've got to deal with."
STACY COMPTON, NO. 14 CONSECO PONTIAC GRAND PRIX
"I wish we could have gotten the second lap in. We got turned sideways down in turn one on the second lap, but it was still a good lap for the Conseco Pontiac. We've struggled since we got here and, man, I don't have a clue what's going on. We've just really struggled, but I'm happy with that lap. I wish we would have gotten that second lap - I think it would have been pretty good. But, we'll take the one we got."
