HOW WERE THINGS TO THAT POINT? "Well, we sure would have liked to have been running better, but we've got a great race team with this Viagra team and we were wrestling as hard as we could go. We were in the process of making the best day out of it that we could."
THIS IS SOMETHING YOU GUYS AREN'T USED TO, ESPECIALLY HERE. "We got lucky last year and didn't break a lot of engines. Maybe we'll get lucky this year and only have one."
ELLIOTT SADLER - No. 38 M&M's Taurus (Finished 42nd)
"I think something let go in the drive line, I'm not real sure. They're looking at it right now just to see. We had great horsepower, it was pretty awesome. We had a good race car. We didn't start off too good. We were terrible in practice, but they made it better. I'm so proud of these guys. They changed every single thing you can change that bolts to a race car this morning. We had a 30th-place car yesterday and we had a top-10 car today. It was just getting better the longer the race went. Man, the first three races we've just had some bad luck. We've had some fast races, but just some bad luck. We're looking forward to getting the monkey off our back and see if we can turn things around."
LAST WEEK RYR HAD A GREAT WEEK AND THIS WEEK BOTH CARS ARE OUT EARLY. "Yeah, I was in there getting changed and I saw where the 1 car just absolutely took DJ out. That's a shame for him, running second in the points and trying to get some momentum with a top-five or a top-10 car. He almost got into me too before we had our problems. It's hard to be careful out there with guys running three-wide and two-wide and lapped cars trying to get their lap back."
DALE JARRETT - No. 88 UPS Taurus (Finished 41st)
"I'm pissed off, to be quite honest. You've got the same people doing stupid stuff back there and there's no reason for that."
CAN YOU COMMENT ON GOING FROM WINNING ONE WEEK TO A RESULT LIKE THIS THE NEXT? "Yeah, it is. I was sitting there running my race and working on the car, and you've got people out there that I don't know where they're going."
WHAT HAPPENED? "I got hit. Unfortunately, it's some of the same people that do it. It's just a bad day."
ROBERT YATES, Car Owner - 88 and 38 Tauruses - "Last week was great, but I think this week was a little bit tougher to take. I guess we came out here and just threw a seven - two of them. We've just got to work hard and get back after it. They have one of these about every week, so that's a good thing."
ARE THESE THE FRUSTRATING DAYS OF RACING? "This is why you have to have a good cast-iron stomach to do this for a living."
KURT BUSCH - No. 97 Rubbermaid Taurus (Finished 38th)
"We were just trying to salvage the best finish we could out of it. Unfortunately, we got the car loose and got back in the pack like that. It was just a tough day. We didn't expect it to end like this that's for sure."
YOU TRIED TO GET BACK OUT. "We were just trying to get back out in front of those guys we wrecked with. It's too bad. It's a shame that all the cars were as loose as they are out there."
RICKY RUDD - No. 21 Motorcraft Taurus (Finished 19th)
"We just had a long week. There was a gamble on the pit strategy at the very end. We were going for 15th and had been ahead of the 41 car. He put on four and we put on two, but that didn't work too good. Still, it was a good try, so we ended up 18th. We should have been 15th. That's still a long way from the front, but a long way from the back also. We finished the race and it wasn't a terrible point day for us. We'll go on and work on it and get it a little bit better."
TODD BODINE - No. 54 National Guard Taurus (Finished 20th)
"We had a top-five going for us and then the crash happened. I did all I could to drive through it. Unfortunately, we got caught up in it. At least we were able to keep going. I guess that's a good thing. It's really a shame. The car was handling really the best it had been all day on new tires, we just couldn't get through that big crash unscathed. Atlanta is up next and that's good for me, so that's a good thing."
JEFF BURTON - No. 99 CITGO Taurus (Finished 6th)
"We're a young team and we're not doing quite as good a job as we need to be on communicating about what we need to do to make our car better during the race but that will come in time. We're struggling a little bit on pit road and that will come in time too. The main thing is that we've got cars that I can drive. I can tell them if it won't run why exactly it won't run. As long as we have that, we can get our deal right."
YOU MADE UP TIME ON THE TRACK. "Early in the race we were good on long runs, but late in the race we weren't good on long runs. We're learning. Like I said, we're a real young team. We haven't been together a long time and we're learning each other. When I say how loose loose is, Paul is learning what that means. We're a young team and we're gonna get better. That was a good run for us. I'm not disappointed with the run at all. We were better than the 17 for most of the day, but they got their car a little better and got track position. We lost track position and never seemed to get our car better, so we're in the ballpark - now all we have to do it knock it out of there."
MATT KENSETH - No. 17 DEWALT Power Tools Taurus (Finished 1st)
VICTORY LANE INTERVIEW: "We just have an awesome pit crew. We had some turnover this winter, but these guys are still the world champions. These guys worked really hard to get me out of the pits and it was key to be out front. It seemed like the Fords had trouble keeping up when we were behind, but when we got out front we could set sail. I'm pretty excited. I didn't expect to win here. It's a great day for our DEWALT Ford."
WHAT WAS THE KEY TO VICTORY? "Just getting out front. The pit stop where we beat Dale, Jr. out of the pits, that was the key and I stayed out by accident. When I stayed out with Dale, Jr. they wanted me to pit and I stayed out by accident, so that was a big help actually because of the way it worked out and being ahead of the 8 after that pit stop."
