Larson tops Saturday morning Sprint Cup practice

Although Larson focussed strictly on qualifying set ups on Friday, in the second practice for Bad Boy Off Road 300, the No. 42 Target dialed the car in for Sunday.

Last Sunday’s winner Martin Truex Jr., who qualified second, was second quick with a lap of 132.186mph, followed by Matt Kenseth (132.085mph) July’s winner at the Magic Mile.

Fellow Chasers Denny Hamlin (132.030mph), Chase Elliott (131.980mph), Carl Edwards (131,934mph), Jimmie Johnson (131.724mph), Kyle Busch (131.697mph) and Kevin Harvick (131.678mph) all set times among the top nine with Greg Biffle (131.606mph) rounding out the top 10 in single lap runs.

Johnson’s 57 laps were the most completed during the session. The six-time champion and three-time winner at NHMS, worked on his pit road entry and exit after being busted for speeding in the last two Sprint Cup events.

Other Chase participants included Jamie McMurray (11th), Joey Logano (14th), Kurt Busch (15th), Brad Keselowski (18th), Tony Stewart (19th), Austin Dillon (23rd) and Chris Buescher (33rd).

The only incident in practice occurred seven minutes into the session when Ricky Stenhouse Jr. spun coming off of pit road for his first run.

Truex was fastest among the 22 drivers who ran at least 10 consecutive laps in the session. His average lap speed was 131.139 mph, slightly fastest than his fellow Toyota driver Kenseth (131.033 mph).

Kyle Busch was third-fastest in the 10-lap average, followed by Hamlin and Elliott.
