Well, Kyle Busch didn't chirp his tires at Phoenix International Raceway. A week after a run-in with the law in a fast food parking lot, Kyle Busch isn't letting a pesky traffic citation keep him down. Busch earned the Bud pole for Saturday nights Cup race at PIR with a lap of 133.744 mph.

It is Busch's second career pole in his 50th career start and first of the 2006 season.

"That's good enough," said Busch who won at PIR last fall. "I have to save the good stuff for the race. I wasn't sure that was going to hold up but obviously it did."

Greg Biffle's lap of 133.383 mph snared him a starting spot on the outside pole, "We've had a lot of success at Phoenix with a couple of wins in the Busch Series and a few really good runs in the Cup Series. I always enjoy racing on the west coast and especially at a track where we've had some success."

Tony Stewart was third.

"We had a good run here last year," said Stewart who ran a lap of 133.299 mph. "We were quick in practice and I am happy with our starting position. I feel like my race package is going to be pretty good. I'm pretty happy with how our weekend is going so far."

Roush teammates Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards complete the top five.

"It seems like it's all or nothing for us at Phoenix," said Kenseth of his history at PIR. "We had a stretch of races a few years ago where we competed for the win each time and finished something like three top 10s in a row. But, the last few times at Phoenix, it's been almost the exact opposite. For the most part, it's just been bad luck or equipment failure or something like that."

Forty-nine cars attempted to qualify for the forty-three car field. Failing to make the show were Chad Chaffin, Mike Garvey, Chad Blount, Kevin Lepage, Morgan Shepard and Steve Portenga.
