Kyle Busch quickest in final practice at Bristol

The driver of the No. 18 M&Ms 75th Anniversary Toyota topped the speed chart with a lap of 14.796mph (14.796sec). Camrys accounted for four of the top five times. Martin Truex Jr. set the second fastest lap of 129.587mph (14.807sec) followed by Matt Kenseth (129.386mph), rookie Ryan Blaney (129.334mph) in a Ford and Denny Hamlin (129.256mph).

Jamie McMurray established the top time — 14.894-sec. (128.830mph) — in a Chevy with his Ganassi Racing teammate Kyle Larson just a tic slower (14.896sec).

“Right now I would say the bottom has got a little bit more speed in it than the top does, at least for the first 10 or so laps,” Larson said. “I think after that the top is not too far off. The top still has a ways to go before it is right. (Turns) 1 and 2 has got a little bit more rubber up there than (Turns) 3 and 4 does. I think once three and four gets a little bit wider entry and you can get up in the grip earlier you will run about the same lap time as you can on the bottom later in a run. I still think the first few laps you will run the bottom.

“It will be fun, I think, I wasn’t too happy with them putting the stuff on the bottom, but I think in the race it will be good. I think we will all probably qualify around the bottom and you may spend the first little bit of the race on the bottom, but I think it will wear out and the racing should be really good. I think once you get to traffic you will be able to kind of move around and try even more lanes than before.”

Joey Logano (128.528mph), Carl Edwards (128.253mph) and Brad Keselowski (128.142mph) rounded out the top 10 in single laps speeds.

Happy Hour was barely underway when rain sprinkled the half-mile track at the four-minute mark. The precipitation was not significant enough to require track drying and practice resumed a few minutes later.

Hamlin led the Best 10 Consecutive Lap Averages with a speed of 127.193mph followed by Busch (127.015mph), rookie Chase Elliott (126.865mph), Ryan Newman (126.811mph), Kenseth (126.669mph), Keselowski (126.660mph) Edwards (126.273mph), Kevin Harvick (126.086mph), Tony Stewart (126.038mph) and rookie Ryan Blaney (125.966mph).

Austin Dillon’s 94 laps were the most completed during the session.
