"Phoenix is an awesome race track. I am fortunate to have been able to race in many different divisions at the track and even won some races, but I am still working on the Winston Cup win. After our fourth-place finish here last year, I am looking forward to topping that finish this year." --- Ken Schrader, driver of the Skoal Bandit Racing Chevrolet
KEN SCHRADER NOTES AND QUOTES PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
Ken Schrader has visited victory lane more than any other driver at Phoenix International Raceway. Prior to the 1998 Skoal Bandit Racing Copper World Classic, Schrader had eight victories and was tied with Chuck Gurney for the most wins at the one-mile paved oval. Schrader is now the all-time win leader after winning the Southwest Tour event in the Copper World Classic. He has two Southwest Tour, four USAC Midget and three USAC Silver Crown victories at the Arizona track.
Schrader's commitment to the Skoal Bandit Racing Copper World Classic earned him the prestigious J.W. Hunt Award in 1998. The award is given to the "racer's racer," like A.J. Foyt who previously received the honor. Hunt was a successful strawberry farmer in Florida and made many charitable contributions to the auto racing fraternity. The Skoal Bandit Racing Copper World Classic was his favorite race, therefore, Phoenix International Raceway started the award.
In last year's Dura Lube 500, Schrader started sixth and remained in the top five for most of the race. Early in the event the No. 33 ran a little hot until the crew was able to take some tape off the grill during a pit stop. Schrader continued to race in the top five and eventually finished fourth.
Ken Schrader will be signing autographs at Toolies Country Bar, 4321 W. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, Ariz., on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 8-10 p.m.
