------------------------------------------- Ouch that hurts!!!! ------------------------------------------- Kyle Petty wrecked his car at the Brickyard and suffered some pretty serious injuries. But what hurts more than crashing a Winston Cup car at nearly 200 MPH???? How about when the rescue workers lift you up off the ground, while one of them is stepping on your pony tail??? Kyle said that hurt worse than the wreck. AutoWeek says that "would never have happened to daddy."

------------------------------------------- Boris Said to drive Truck Series ------------------------------------------- Veteran Road Racer Boris Said has reportedly received an offer from Ernie Irvan to drive the entire '97 Craftsman Truck series. Boris will reportedly accept the offer if he cannot find sponsorship for his Trans Am ride for next year. Boris has already driven in a couple of truck races this year, and plans on doing a couple more.

------------------------------------------- Rainer/Welsh wants Winston Cup ------------------------------------------- The Rainer/Welsh Busch Grand National team with Tony Stewart as driver is trying to break into Winston Cup racing for next year. Tony Stewart was Rookie of the Year at the Indy 500 and has been running a few select BGN races this year. The team has hired a marketing firm to help attract a sponsor, which is its key to making the jump to Winston Cup.

------------------------------------------- Hamilton extends contract with Petty ------------------------------------------- Bobby Hamilton has stated that he has signed on with Richard Petty to continue driving the #43 STP Pontiac for1997.

------------------------------------------- CBS to televise TWS ------------------------------------------- CBS Sports is expected to announce that it will televise the inaugural Texas 500 NASCAR Winston Cup race at the newly built Texas Motor Speedway on April 6, 1997.

------------------------------------------- California here we come ------------------------------------------- Penske and NASCAR have announced that the new California Speedway will in fact get a Winston Cup race next year on June 22nd.

------------------------------------------- Silly Season is in full swing... ------------------------------------------- Well the rumor that Robby Gordon was talking to Felix Sabates about taking over the #42 Pontiac seat being vacated by Kyle Petty next year is no longer a rumor. Robby and Felix announced last weekend that Robby has signed a six-year deal with Felix Sabates to run the Winston Cup circuit, and will likely drive a few IndyCar races for him as well. Felix will put Robby behind the wheel of a Truck for a few races this year, and is planning on renting North Wilkesboro for a whole month for Robby to get some short track experience. Robby is the second (though unrelated) Gordon to make the switch from a strong Ford upbringing to a full time GM Winston Cup ride.

The Kyle Petty & Pepsi rumor seems to be hanging around the garage area still. Rumor was that Pepsi, Taco Bell and Kentucky Fried Chicken (burp!) will be co-sponsors on Kyle's car next year. However, another report says that Mugg Root Beer might be the sponsor.

It was announced that Robert Pressley will definitely leave the #33 Skoal Bandit car next year, due to some conflicts with Andy Petree. No official word on a replacement driver yet, but keep reading. .

No new word on Brett Bodine, as he is still trying to close a deal with a sponsor for next year after losing Lowe's to Childress' second team with Mike Skinner as driver.

A new rumor surfaced this past weekend concerning Kenny Schrader not signing a contract extension with Hendrick Motorsports and the #25 Budweiser car. Seems his name continues to be associated with taking over the #33 Skoal car vacated by Pressley, but there is some concern over who gets the Budweiser sponsorship and how Kenny gets out of the Bud Personal Appearance contract. Ward Burton's name is being tossed around as the replacement for Schrader in the Hendrick car. Another unrelated rumor has Hendrick starting a fourth team next year...

Controversy continues to surround the #37 Kmart Little Ceasar's car owned by Kranefuss/Haas. Rumor has it thatTim Brewer has reportedly left the even though he was part owner of the team. Another rumor has Andretti swapping rides with Jeremy Mayfield from the #98 RCA car owned by Cale Yarborough.

Morgan-McClure, owners of the #4 Kodak car, are deifinitely trying to form a second team for next year. Rick Mast's name has surfaced as a possibility for this ride, since the fate of the #1 Skoal team is unclear at this point. A sponsor has been named, and its AT&T.
