Jamie McMurray, a native of Joplin, Mo., returns to Kansas Speedway this weekend, where in five starts has two top-10 finishes.
In just his second outing at the 1.5-mile speedway, McMurray led 19 laps before going on to finish with a career-best finish of seventh at Kansas Speedway.
Prior to the race this weekend, McMurray will visit Blaine's Farm & Fleet in Verona, Wis., on Thursday to help promote IRWIN Industrial Tools' "Ultimate Tradesmen Challenge."
This weekend, McMurray will pilot his No. 26 Crown Royal Ford Fusion.
McMurray on racing at Kansas Speedway:
"Obviously it's always nice to return to Kansas Speedway. Although it's hard to say it's my "hometown" track, it is the track that is closest to my house and it's always nice to see all the fans from that area come out to support me. We always have an autograph session at the track on Friday night, and to see all the people that I grew up with in Joplin is always cool. They always come up and say they've been pulling for me for a long time, and look forward to the Kansas race. It's always cool to return home to see them.
"Last week was really tough for me and the No. 26 team. We had probably the fastest car we've had all season, and if it hadn't been for a couple bad pit stops, I don't think we would have been put in the position to be taken out by another car. It was a shame to see that happen and to know that I could have been running with Matt and them at the end of the race.
"If things continue like they have the last few weeks, we will have another really fast Ford Fusion for this weekend. It's unreal how fast our cars have been, which is great, but we need the finishes to go along with them. Hopefully, we can have a great weekend in Kansas this weekend and bring home a good finish in front of the local fans."
Crew chief Larry Carter on racing at Kansas Speedway:
"I think the No. 26 Crown Royal team is looking forward to Kansas this weekend. We had a couple slow stops last week that put us in a bad position. So to say that we are looking forward to getting back out there and hopefully having a good run would be an understatement. We are testing Lowe's this week, which might help us a little for Kansas, we might be able to find a thing or two. Hopefully we can have another fast Ford Fusion from the minute we unload this weekend. That's how we've been for the last few weeks, just haven't had the results that we needed."
