Kansas City: Pontiac Racing race quotes

TONY STEWART, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (8th): "We had a good car, but I honestly don't believe it was a top five car. The guys did a great job on the pit stop and got us track position. If it went to the end we were going to finish...

TONY STEWART, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (8th):

"We had a good car, but I honestly don't believe it was a top five car. The guys did a great job on the pit stop and got us track position. If it went to the end we were going to finish fifth or sixth. But, of course, the caution late in the race for that debris that wasn't in anybody's way or anything like that - I mean, that's the part that's hard - not knowing what to do when you're that far back, as far as whether you come in and pit."

ON GUYS LAYING BACK ON RESTARTS: "We were having a problem with second gear anyway. But, NASCAR has got to do better than what they're doing. They keep telling us in the drivers meeting, 'Do better about it,' and that was the worst damn race we've had for eight races as far as people laying back. If they're going to do it, we'll just do it, too. If they're not going to black-flag them for it, they sure as hell can't black-flag us for it, so we'll just do what everybody else is doing from now on."

BOBBY LABONTE, NO. 18 INTERSTATE BATTERIES PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (22nd):

HOW ABOUT THE WRECK YOU WERE INVOLVED IN EARLY IN THE RACE? "The guys were wrecking in front of us and we got run into from behind - you really can't do anything about it. The guys behind us can't do anything about it, either. Everybody is so close.

"But, that's the way it goes. We had a tough weekend, but still came home 22nd. It could have been a lot worse."

YOUR TEAM REALLY HAD TO WORK HARD THIS WEEKEND... "They do every weekend. Unfortunately, we're not going very far, but we do work pretty hard. We'll figure it all out and gain on it and see what we've got."

HOW ABOUT THE TRACK? "It should be called, 'The Track Too Tough To Tame,' just like Darlington."

JOHNNY BENSON, NO. 10 VALVOLINE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (23rd - Accident):

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE INCIDENT WITH JIMMY SPENCER ON LAP 263? "It just looked like the '41' wanted to take me down in the grass. Then, I went underneath him and got on the apron. I slid up into him after that. We were just sliding and got hit. Guys just do a lot of blocking. I don't know, maybe he was moving down to the grass to let me by on the outside. But, I was already committed underneath him. Then, I ran into him after I hit the apron."

YOU HAD A GOOD CAR PRIOR TO THAT... ""We had a pretty good run. The Valvoline Pontiac had run pretty good. But we were going to run this car the rest of the year. That's the only bad thing. But, we've got some more. We'll get it.

"I hate it. I tore up a really good race car. We were just trying to do the best we can, but it didn't end up on the best note."
