Spencer gains one position in Winston Cup championship points race.

KANSAS, KS (September 29, 2002) - The No. 41 Energizer Dodge Intrepid R/T driven by Jimmy Spencer finished in 24th place after being involved in an accident late in the Protection One 400 race at Kansas Speedway. Spencer gained one position in the Winston Cup championship points race; moving him into 26th position.

The Energizer team took a provisional to start the race in 37th position. Spencer had an up and down day - racing as high as the top-5 and as low as the top-30. The Energizer car was steadily competing in the top-20 during the second half of the race.

On lap 259, Spencer and the No. 10 car of Johnny Benson got together putting both cars out of the race and leaving the Energizer team with a 24th place finish.

"We just couldn't get the car as fast as we needed it to be," crew chief Doug Randolph said after the race. "We struggled with that all day. It was tight racing there at the end, and the 10 car just dove off in there and hit Jimmy in the left rear and got him around. It caused a big wreck for everybody. We had two wrecked race cars today."

Jeff Gordon won the Protection One 400 at Kansas Speedway. Next on the schedule for the No. 41 Target team is the EA Sports 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on October 6, 2002.
