Labonte Involved in Early Incident at Kansas
Kansas City, Kansas, (Oct. 4, 2009) - Bobby Labonte was involved in a lap eight incident in the No. 71 TRG Motorsports Chevrolet Impala SS in this afternoon's running of the Price Chopper 400 presented by Kraft Foods NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway.
Kansas fin Things were looking up for the team, having signed Mahindra Tractors as a sponsor Saturday evening when on lap eight, Labonte was collected in an incident caused by a spinning No. 98 car exiting turn two. The contact spun Labonte and caused too much frontend damage for the team to carry on in the race.
"It was too bad we went out that early," Labonte said. "We made some changes to the car that we thought would make us competitive in the race, but really never got a chance to get going to prove them out. I think the No. 98 (Paul Menard) lost it off of turn two and was collecting the No. 6 (David Regan). I thought I had a clear shot to maybe get by there, but I ended up right in it. So that ruined our day. We had Mahindra Tractors come on board at the last minute. It would have been nice to give them a better ride than eight laps today." Kevin Buckler, TRG Motorsports team principal, was able to find some late add sponsorship for the team.
"We had Mahindra Tractors on the car, which came in late on Saturday," Buckler said. "We thought we were going to have a good run and were looking forward to seeing what our new car could do. Bobby said the car was good and it looked fast early, but in ended up being a tough day. It was Talladega all over again."
The team will travel to Auto Club Speedway for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pepsi 500 to be run on Sunday, October 11.
