After two practice sessions, qualifying is up next at RIR.
Two practices into the NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend, Hendrick Motorsports driver Kasey Kahne has laid down the fastest lap at 126.357mph (21.368 seconds). Kahne had to serve a 15-minute penalty at the start of opening Friday practice for failing qualifying inspection three times last weekend at Bristol.
Brad Keselowski led the first session for Team Penske at 126.086mph (21.414 seconds). There were no major incidents, but Clint Bowyer did suffer minor cosmetic damage after touching the wall.
Chase Elliott, who will replace Jeff Gordon in the No. 24 next year, ended the practice sessions in 21st and 27th. Denny Hamlin rebounded nicely from his Bristol neck issues, ending up 10th and 5th on the time sheets.
All drivers posted a time in both the first and final practice sessions with roughly a second covering the field
Two teams will be sent home in qualifying later today.
