Separated by only 1/1000th of a second, the Hendrick duo led the field during Friday's practice session.
In Friday's only NASCAR Sprint Cup practice session, the Hendrick Motorsport Chevrolets of Kasey Kahne and Dale Earnhardt Jr. lef the way. Kahne was able to complete a lap at the high-banked half-mile in 14.971 seconds, just 1/100th of a second clear of his elder teammate.
Their closest competitor was Brad Keselowski at a 14.994. The two-time winner of this event also posted the fast ten-lap average of the 17 drivers that ran that long. Kyle Larson and Justin Allgaier trailed him in that category.
In terms of one-lap speeds, JGR teammates Carl Edwards and David Ragan rounded out the top five. Allgaier, Joey Logano, Ryan Newman, Jamie McMurray, and Austin Dillon filled out the rest of the top ten. A single tenth was the difference between the top 12 drivers.
Tony Stewart, still trying to get out of a slump, ran the most laps at 65. Brendan Gaughan, attempting to make his first Bristol start since 2012, was the slowest of 45 cars that posted a time.
