Nemechek uninjured in Sunday road accident By Marty Smith CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 15, 1999)

NASCAR Winston Cup Series driver Joe Nemechek and several of his family were involved in a single-car accident Sunday evening just minutes after arriving at Concord Regional Airport following the Pennzoil 400 presented by Kmart at Homestead-Miami Speedway. While the driver of Team SABCO's BellSouth Chevrolet was not hurt, his wife remained hospitalized Monday afternoon, a source at Nemechek's Nemco Motorsports team said. According to the Nemco spokesperson, Nemechek was leaving the airport on Poplar Tent Road and, unaware that the street had been reconfigured to include a new abrupt turn, drove the family vehicle into a ditch.

Nemechek, 36; his father Joe Jr.; and the driver's young son John Hunter Nemechek each escaped injury. Joe Nemechek's wife, Andrea, who is in her eighth month of pregnancy with the couple's second child, sustained minor injuries but none affecting the pregnancy, the spokesperson said. She is being treated at Northeast Regional Medical Center near Concord, but is expected to be released Tuesday. Joe Nemechek's mother, Martha, was treated and released Sunday evening from NRMC.

Nemechek, who won the Hotwheels.com 300 at Miami NASCAR Busch Series event Saturday at Homestead and who finished 21st in Sunday's race, was unavailable for comment Monday.
