JGR shifts crew chief alignments for next season in both Sprint Cup and XFINITY Series
LAS VEGAS - Joe Gibbs Racing released its crew chief lineup for the 2015 on Thursday for both the Sprint Cup and XFINITY Series.
Only Kenseth/Ratcliffe pairing remains untouched
Jason Ratcliff remains aligned with Matt Kenseth and the No. 20 team however, as has been widely speculated, Dave Rogers will now oversee Denny Hamlin’s effort with the No. 11 team, Darian Grubb moves to the newly formed No. 19 team with Carl Edwards and Adams Stevens has been promoted from the Nationwide Series No. 54 squad to be the Cup crew chief for Kyle Busch.
With the expansion of our Sprint Cup operations, we have been able to take a step back and evaluate each of our teams and make decisions that we feel are best
Stevens honed his crew chief skills with the No. 54 NNS Toyota over the last four seasons. He has amassed 31 wins, 73 top-five and 95 top-10 finishes in 124 races.
XFINITY crew chiefs
In the XFINITY Series, Eric Phillips will guide rookie Daniel Suarez in the No. 18 Toyota. Chris Gayle (No. 54) and Mike Wheeler (No. 20) will be the crew chiefs for a variety of drivers including Darrell Wallace and Erik Jones.
“With the expansion of our NASCAR Sprint Cup Series operations to four teams next year with the addition of Carl Edwards, we have been able to take a step back and evaluate each of our teams and make decisions that we feel are best for our organization long term,” said J.D. Gibbs, president of Joe Gibbs Racing.
“Like Jason and Dave previously, Adam has clearly proven that he is ready to move into the Cup Series and we feel that his familiarity with Kyle provides the opportunity for us to make that move now. We think pairing Dave with Denny and Darian with Carl will also make each team stronger heading into next season. Jason and Matt came together quickly and we felt it was in the best interest of the 20 team to keep it as is.”
