Richmond, Va-- Hendrick Motorsports driver Jeff Gordon has been on a hot streak as of late in his No. 24. Gordon has taken victories in the past two events and followed up his winning efforts with a 10th place qualifying run for Saturday night's 400 mile event.

Unfortunate for Gordon he will have to relinquish that starting spot following an accident during the Winston Cup Series' final practice session. Gordon ran his No. 24's right side along the outside retaining wall in turn two.

Joining Gordon in the rear of the field will be Evernham Motorsports' Bill Elliott. Elliott suffered an engine failure. He was supposed to roll off of the grid in the 19th starting position.
