Leffler Scores Best Finish Of Season In Pennzoil 400

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (November 12, 2001) - The No. 01 Cingular Wireless Dodge R/T driven by rookie driver Jason Leffler finished 10th in the Pennzoil 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This is Leffler's best finish of the 2001 NASCAR Winston Cup season. He is currently 36th in NASCAR Winston Cup Championship points standings; he is 160 points out of 37th place.

The Cingular Wireless Dodge started the 267-lap event in seventh position. Leffler competed between ninth and 11th positions until a slow green flag pit stop on lap 85 put the team back in 21st position. The Cingular Wireless Dodge continued to race in the middle of the field (positions 15th through 28th) until close to the end of the event.

During the team's last pit stop of the day (lap225), Leffler received two tires and fuel and restarted the race in seventh position. Leffler dropped back and eventually took the checkered flag in 10th place - his best Winston Cup Series finish.

"It was a good day for us," Leffler said. "It helped with Doug (Randolf) coming on board to help and share some information. Now we'll go to Atlanta and hopefully gain a couple more spots there."

"It was a real good day overall," said Matt Chambers, crew chief, No. 01 Cingular Wireless Dodge. "Qualifying good really helps here because it's so hard to pass. We were in a see-saw cycle with everyone getting two tires or four tires but we timed it right to where we could get two tires at the end and we picked up a lot of track position."

Next on the schedule for the No. 01 Cingular Wireless team is the NAPA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday, Nov. 18.
