Notes: The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the only track on the circuit at which this combination will be run this season . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at IMS . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire . . . Goodyear conducted two tests at the Speedway this year. Kasey Kahne, Tony Stewart and Elliott Sadler tested in April and in June Kahne and J.J. Yeley tested.
Mark Keto, lead engineer, stock car tire development: "The tire compound chosen is tougher on both sides of the car than last year, and we've specified the more robust mold and construction package similar to that which we used at Lowe's Motor Speedway in May.
As with all 'green' track surfaces, rather high tire wear slows down as a track rubbers in. The same is expected at the Brickyard race with a green surface and the particular nature of its ground surface. That's the reason we've beefed up our tires. We would expect to see rather heavy but manageable tire wear until the track has a base of rubber laid down."
