"We were just way too tight. We ran in race trim for a long time in practice. We made two qualifying runs in practice and they were both really tight and it was just as tight there, so that's all I could do. It was a good lap for me, but it just has to be freed up because it's a fast race track."
WILL THE LACK OF PRACTICE HURT AT ALL FOR THE RACE? "We had plenty of race practice, so I think we're gonna be pretty good." HOW IS THE HAND? "My hand is great. We were just a little bit too tight to go real fast. It'll be good though. In race trim it was super-fast, so we'll head over to ORP tonight and race the Busch car. Bob, my crew chief, is gonna work on this thing and I think it'll be pretty good for tomorrow."
ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT 400 MILES TOMORROW FROM A PHYSICAL STANDPOINT? "No. I've prepared the best I can."
JAMIE MCMURRAY -- No. 26 Crown Royal Ford Fusion (Qualified 15th)
"I think going out later now is gonna be big. When we drew 10th we were pretty excited about that. We talked about it all week. If you get a good draw at Indy, it makes a difference going out in the morning but I don't know now if it's gonna make as big of a difference instead of the morning, but we picked up a lot from practice. We had a top five or six car in practice in race trim and in qualifying trim we were terrible, so we changed some things. It wasn't great, but it was better than it was so I think we'll be pretty good for tomorrow."
RICKY RUDD -- No. 88 Snickers Ford Fusion (Qualified 37th)
"Just disappointed, pretty much, most of the year in our qualifying effort. We're really happy in race trim -- we're like 14th on the grid before everybody switched over to qualifying trim, and we're really happy with the race set-up. But, we need to get up there in the front and get out of all that dirty air when the race starts. We've been very slow in qualifying trim. Our race-trim package is about as fast as our qualifying trim, so that's something we've got to figure out. We're not getting it quite worked out for qualifying."
SO, THIS IS A CAR THAT YOU CAN WORK WITH TOMORROW? "Yeah, it's a good race car, but we're going to have to come from way back deep in the field. Again, we were about a 14th-place car on race runs before everybody started putting their packages under it. We spent maybe two runs on our qualifying effort, enough that we shouldn't be this fast. There's something that we're just not doing right or we're not hitting something right on the combination for qualifying. And, this day, you've got to have both. Here, track position is everything, so you need the position."
BILL ELLIOTT -- No. 21 Motorcraft Ford Fusion (Qualified 32nd)
"We really needed Friday for us to work together and try to get some more stuff worked out. It's just difficult. Like, you come in here a year ago and you had a three-day practice; you come in here this time with nothing. We've only practiced a couple of times with these guys, and I think that was with the COT car, and it's just hard to do. It's hard to come in and get used to these guys and do what we've got to do and everything in this business. They've got a really good race team, if we could just get that -- and I keep saying this -- get that little bit to jell together. This race track, I know what I want -- if we can just get it. That's the biggest thing."
GREG BIFFLE -- No. 16 Dish Network Ford Fusion (Qualified 8th)
"I tell you what, the car was faster than I was right there. I don't know why I was so nervous. I was nervous about getting back over here -- going over to the Busch race and getting back in time to qualify. When I buckled down in the car the 84 hit the fence coming off four and I'm like, 'I've got a good, good race car. I don't need to screw this up right now.' So I was off a hair in one and then off just a little bit in three and four, but that car was probably capable of being dang near that pole speed I bet because you can make up a lot of time here in a hurry. What I'm excited about is it's a solid top-10, top-5 car in race trim and that's what I'm really excited about. I didn't do the guys justice right there. That thing was probably third or fourth place, but I'm pretty excited. I've got a good race car."
