"It was a good run. I was very pleased with the car. It didn't end up on the pole, but it was a great day to qualify and everybody got everything they could out of the car. I don't know how I could go back out and run a better lap. That's all I had. I wish the sun had come out and got the track a little warmer, but the weather is going to be what it's going to be. I love this racetrack. I love racing here. It's always been good to me. We got a good draw, but I knew Ryan Newman would be the guy to beat. If we can start in the top five we'll be in good shape. A lot of good cars got an early draw. This has always been fun here. I've enjoyed it the past nine years. I really enjoyed it last year, and I hope I'll be able to enjoy it just as much when they drop the checkered flag Sunday."
RYAN NEWMAN (No. 12 ALLTEL Dodge Intrepid)
"It was raining in turns three and four when I qualified. I feel bad for Larry Foyt. He got stuck in a bad position. I didn't think my time would stand up. I knew a lot of fast cars were coming. The track got faster with the rain and clouds coming in. It would have been cool to win the pole here, but we'll just have to win the race now. The guys did an awesome job. We were struggling yesterday, and we picked up a second and a half in qualifying today. The track changed a whole lot, and we changed a lot of things on the car.
"I didn't expect to be quite that fast. The track was in great shape. I think the weather had a lot to do with the changes. We both didn't sleep a lot last night. It's not typical for us to be that far off. We struggled a lot yesterday and made a lot of changes. It showed up. I just hope it's enough. We talked about it plenty. It's just a matter of teamwork.
"Track position is huge everywhere, and it'll be big here Sunday all day. We'll see what we can do to keep the car up front. We're just doing the best job we can. You guys can call it our stride if you want. We picked up a second and a half in qualifying trim at Indy, so you smile about that, no doubt. It's been a good racetrack for Penske Racing. I hope we can get another win for Roger (would be 50th NASCAR victory for Penske).
"I try to be calm out there. If you get rattled it doesn't do you any good. I'm just happy to have done as well as we did. I'm sure we're on the edge out there, but I don't look at it like that. I want to do the best job I can, and I can't do that if I get myself all rattled up.
"Qualifying is a team thing. The team has to have the car there, and the driver has to put the lap down. I didn't really expect that lap today, but I knew the team had potential to do it. I thought we might get beat today, but hopefully we'll have a good run Sunday. We'll just go out there and do the best job we can. We enjoy racing with everybody as long as we're racing for the win."
STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid)
"All the boys did a good job. I wish we could have gone earlier. We picked up six tenths and a lot of guys picked up a second or more. It's not really fair. It's still cool, but if I could have gone at 10 o'clock I would rather go then. They need to do it later in the afternoon when it would be fair for everybody. We're starting 12th, and I think we'll be in pretty good shape for the race. We had a good test here We don't usually qualify good, and that's pretty good for us. I think we'll definitely be in the mix."
CASEY MEARS (No. 41 Target Dodge Intrepid)
"I wanted to run a little faster than that, but as much as we struggled in practice, I think we were about 40th quickest, so that's not too bad. To bounce back like we did was pretty good for us. The clouds came back over, but we were still too tight. Overall, I think it was pretty good. Running an IndyCar around here is so different than a stock car. The fact my uncle and dad and grandpa are here for support means a lot. It's kind of neat to be the guy that's keeping it all going, and to have everybody come out and support me is a lot of fun."
RUSTY WALLACE (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Intrepid)
"It cooled down and got us back in the game a little bit. I was concerned we were really going to get stuck with that late draw. We picked up over seven tenths from practice. Now it's time to get the race setup in the car. I started 35th last year and finished second, so hopefully I can win the thing starting 14th. The track really got quicker. It was definitely faster this morning, but beggars can't be choosers."
JAMIE McMURRAY (No. 42 Havoline Dodge Intrepid)
"I heard a lot of guys say they didn't drive it hard enough, so I just wanted to make sure I did."
KYLE PETTY (No. 45 Georgia Pacific Dodge Intrepid)
"I think the weather was funny. It looked like the fishing forecast showing the good times and bad times of the day. I think it started well and the first 10 or 15 cars got a good shot at it, then it got bad and good again and bad and good again. We picked up as much as anybody, but we've been off since we've been here with both of our cars."
JEREMY MAYFIELD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Intrepid)
"These guys did a great job on the car. We picked up seventh tenths, and that's good the way the track slowed down at the end. I was worried about going out last. The guys made some great adjustments and got the car real good. We feel real good about the race. We tested and were awesome in race trim, so we feel real good about it."
