Harvick tops first practice at Kansas Speedway

Can Kevin Harvick earn his fourth consecutive pole at Kansas?

KANSAS CITY, KAN. — Kevin Harvick topped the speed chart in first practice at Kansas Speedway on Friday.

Harvick ran a total of 30 laps. His fastest circuit was 190. 772 mph (28.306-seconds), followed by Joey Logano (190.375mph), Carl Edwards (190.268mph), Tony Stewart (189.188mph) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (187637mph).

Harvick has won the last three poles at Kansas Speedway. He earned his first career Kansas win here in 2013.

Edwards jumped to the top of the board early. The Columbia, Mo. native is still looking for his first win at his hometown track. He’s yet to improve on his career-high finish in 2005. However, considering that Edwards has returned to Kansas with a fresh start and a new team in Joe Gibbs Racing behind him, the change might be just what he needs to turn his luck around.

“It’s cool for me to be here,” Edwards said. “Hopefully we run well.”

Kyle Larson, Brad Keselowski, Matt Kenseth, Erik Jones and Martin Truex Jr. rounded out the top 10. Jones is looking to make his first career Sprint Cup start on Saturday.
