Kevin Harvick adds his name to 2004 Budweiser Shootout lineup

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (Aug. 4, 2003) - For the second straight year, Kevin Harvick has earned a berth in the 2004 Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway in February Harvick, driver of the No. 29 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, won the Bud Pole for last weekend's NASCAR Winston Cup Brickyard 400, lapping Indianapolis Motor Speedway in a record 48.822 seconds at 184.343 mph The following day, Harvick won the race, becoming the first driver to win from the pole in the event's 10-year history.

Harvick's Bud Pole is his second in 91 NASCAR Winston Cup races. His other Bud Pole came at the "World Center of Racing" during the 2002 Pepsi 400 weekend. In Harvick's first Budweiser Shootout start earlier this year, he finished ninth. The Budweiser Shootout, a non-points race that will serve as the kickoff to the 2004 season, will be held under the lights Saturday night, Feb 7 as a part of Speedweeks 2004. Harvick becomes the 20th driver to qualify for the Budweiser Shootout. Drivers that have already secured spots by winning poles this season include Jeff Green, Dave Blaney, Bobby Labonte, Ryan Newman, Elliott Sadler, Jeremy Mayfield, Jeff Gordon, Terry Labonte, Steve Park, Jimmie Johnson, Boris Said and Tony Stewart.

Past winners already in the field are Dale Earnhardt Jr., Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, Ken Schrader, Bill Elliott, Dale Jarrett and Geoffrey Bodine. The 2004 Budweiser Shootout field now stands at 20 drivers. The record for most cars appearing in the Budweiser Shootout was set in 2002 with 22 drivers.
