HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (April 24, 2001) - In honor of Dale Earnhardt's birthday this weekend, the Hardeeville Motor Speedway will pay tribute to "The Intimidator". Fans are encouraged to wear their Earnhardt memorabilia to the racing events on Saturday evening to celebrate the life of the fallen hero. Scheduled to compete this weekend are the Legends Cars, Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Open Wheel Modifieds and the Bandolero Cars.
Earnhardt, who would have been 50 this coming Sunday, became a pioneer in stock car racing. He was voted one of the 50 greatest drivers of all time and garnered seven NASCAR Winston Cup Championships during his racing career. Earnhardt, who hailed from Kannapolis, N.C., is a hero to many around the Carolinas, as well as around this country. Hardeeville Motor Speedway will honor the man who helped make auto racing the greatest spectator sport in America.
This past weekend, feature wins went to Tommy Porter, Jr. of Savannah in the O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late Models, Ellis Huggins of Richmond Hill, Ga. in the Street Stocks, Stephen Moore of St. George, S.C. in the Mini Stocks, Tim Dasher from Bluffton, S.C. in the Xtreme Stock Cars and Keith Wells of Summerville, S.C. in the Open Wheel Modifieds. The Legends Cars and Bandolero Cars had a week off to prepare for this weekend's headlining event.
As a special treat for the children attending this weekend's events, "Daisy" the clown will be at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway and there will be free face painting. The Coca-Cola Pedal Car Races will also be run on Saturday evening.
Hardeeville Motor Speedway will also be holding open auditions for National Anthem singers on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. If interested in becoming a local singing celebrity, head to the Hardeeville Motor Speedway on Saturday to try your hand at the "Star Spangled Banner."
Grandstands open at 5:00 p.m. every Saturday evening. The first green flag waves at 5:30 p.m. for the qualifying races, which will determine the starting line-up for the feature events. Feature races are set to begin at 7:30 p.m. Hardeeville Motor Speedway is located three miles southeast of I-95 on Highway 17. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, with reduced rates for seniors, military and children. Children under five are admitted free.
