Bristol, Tenn. (Pre Race) - On Thursday, July 6 NASCAR will meet NHRA when Kevin Hamlin, Crew Chief on the Number 3 Goodwrench Chevrolet, driven by Dale Earnhardt, will get behind the wheel of a NHRA Pro Stock Truck. Hamlin will make three exhibition laps prior to the Winston Show Down during the Fan-Appreciation event in Brian Self's Roof-Tec Chevrolet S-10. Hamlin's roots are in drag racing. He started his racing career behind the wheel of a bracket car in his home state of Michigan. From there he moved on to ASA, and eventually landing in Winston Cup. Even now in his position as the crew chief for the "Intimidator" Dale Earnhardt, Hamlin is still a big fan of NHRA Drag Racing and has a burning desire to navigate the quarter-mile one more time. "This is going to be fun," said Hamlin. "I'm looking forward to driving one of these trucks. I love drag racing, but I didn't think I would ever get to do it again.=20 "Back in Michigan I used to race a bracket car. I kind of got into circle track racing by accident, but I'm still a big drag racing fan. My schedule prevents me from attending a lot of drag races, but wherever we are racing on Sundays we always try to pick it up the drag races on the satellite dish in our trailer. "I was talking to a friend about the Pro Stock Trucks. I guess I kind of shot my mouth off when I said I could drive one of those things. When I was offered a chance to get in a Pro Stock Truck, I jumped at it. I am really lucky that the Brian and his team, the NHRA and the Pro Stock Truck Association have given me the opportunity to drive again. It has been a while since I have been in the seat of a drag car. I may not know what I'm in for, but I'm really going to have fun doing this."=20 On Wednesday July 5, Hamlin will make preliminary license passes at the Bristol Motor Speedway / Bristol Dragway, and will finish his licensing on Thursday July 6.=20
