CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Jan. 13, 2000) Kmart Corporation Thursday morning announced it would sponsor the NASCAR Winston Cup cars fielded by team owners Travis Carter and Carl Haas for the NASCAR 2000 season. At a press conference held in conjunction with the UAW-GM Motorsports Media Tour presented by Lowes Motor Speedway, officials announced that Haas-Carter Motorsports would field the No. 66 Rte 66/Big Kmart Fords for driver Darrell Waltrip, who will begin his retirement "Victory Tour" with the Feb. 20 Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. In addition, Haas-Carter will field the No. 26 Rte 66/Big Kmart Fords for former Featherlite Modified Series, NASCAR Touring champion Jimmy Spencer.

Both teams, which will use engines supplied by 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup championship owner Robert Yates, will participate in Ford's "mandatory" manufacturer's pre-season test session on Jan. 20-21 at Daytona.

Speedweeks 2000 for stock cars begins on Feb. 9 and NASCAR Winston Cup Series practice begins on Feb. 11. Bud Pole Award Qualifying for the Daytona 500 is Feb. 12. -nascar.com-
