1986 Daytona 500 winner Geoffrey Bodine recently announced he would come out of retirement to compete in the Coca Cola 600 at Lowes Motor Speedway.

In Richmond over the weekend, working with his brother Brett, the team announced it would not be fielding a second car, citing" insufficient time to prepare for a competitive run"

The plan was to field a second car with his brother Bret, and Bret Bodine Racing.

Geoffrey, Who competed in Winston Cup from 1979 to 2000, announced his retirement last year after competing in a partial season after being sidelined from a horrific crash suffered in the inaugural truck race at the Daytona International Speedway. Bodine returned to the series at the Spring Race in Richmond, only to be released a few months later by team owner Joe Bessey.

Bodine announced his retirement form the sport shortly before the start of the 2001 season.

Last month Bodine outlined his plans to return, indicating he felt his retirement was premature.
