To be able to come down here for the rest of my life and look down (at the marker) is really amazing

To date, more than 100 drivers have been similarly recognized in the Drivers Walk of Fame, and they include such luminaries as Dan Gurney, Stirling Moss, Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill along with NASCAR aces Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt.

Wallace was on hand along with some 200 fans, who gathered to hear remarks made by officials from the International Motor Racing Research Center.  The ceremony took place in front of the Unique Country Boutique at 212 N. Franklin Street in Watkins Glen, the location of the granite marker.

In addition, Wallace’s No. 2 Miller Lite road-course winning car was parked at the curb in front of the store.

Said Wallace, “This is amazing.  As everyone knows I have won here before, and I love road racing.  It is one of the greatest stops on the NASCAR circuit.  You people are so kind to honor me like this.  This car on display here and at the Research Center was a fast one and a real one that Roger Penske restored and sent here to be on permanent display at the Research Center.  To be able to come down here for the rest of my life and look down (at the marker), go into the  store and get a piece of fudge, and see my plaque in the concrete is really amazing.  I really appreciate this honor.”

After the ceremony, Wallace went inside the store and greeted fans for more than an hour.
