JEREMY MAYFIELD --12-- Mobil 1 Taurus -- "That was a pretty good lap. We ran faster than we did in practice and that's all you shoot for. I'm pretty happy with it. The Mobil 1 Ford has been good all day off the truck and it stuck for us. That's all we can do."

IS THE TRACK A LOT DIFFERENT THAN THE AFTERNOON? "It's not too bad. It's about the same really, there's not much difference. We ran a little quicker. I wish we could have run a little faster. I don't think it'll hold up for the pole, but it'll be close."

CAN YOU TURN IT AROUND HERE? "We're working hard over here to get back to where we need to be and it shows here. We've come here and had a good qualifying run and we're real happy with it."

ANDY HOUSTON --96-- McDonald's Taurus -- "It wasn't real bad. It got a little loose in three and four and I had to wait on it -- I know I lost a little time there. We really were behind here. We went to make a sticker run in practice and the car crashed and really messed up that run, so we really shot in the dark and the crew did a good job. It was just a little bit too free in three and four and I had to wait on it a little bit, but it did as good as could be expected. We're excited about this whole McDonald's program and the Happy Meal car and, hopefully, we'll get in the race here and have a good day."

IT MUST FEEL GOOD TO BE BACK AT THE TRACK. "Yeah, it does. It feels good to be back, I just wish we were a little bit more up out of the border line area, but, hopefully, we'll get in the show OK and have a good day on Sunday."

ELLIOTT SADLER --21-- Citgo Taurus -- "We made a terrible gear selection and that was my fault. The car was perfect and it has been all day. We have not touched one thing on it. It's the best driving car I've ever had here and I made a mistake on the gear. I wanted to try one for tonight and it was the wrong call by a lot, but that happens. The car was good, so we know we've got a lot to work with for Sunday."

DALE JARRETT --88-- Quality Care Service/Ford Credit Taurus -- "We had a good car, we just didn't allow enough for the car to bottom out. The speeds are quicker here tonight and just hit going down into one and it shot me up the track a little bit. That was a good lap Bobby put up and didn't know that I could handle that anyway, but it was a good lap for us." RICKY HAD A GOOD LAP TOO. "It just shows Robert Yates Racing -- two good cars, good motors and, hopefully, we can finish one-two on Sunday."

RICKY RUDD --28-- Texaco Havoline Taurus -- "That's faster than we'd been in practice. We were bottoming out in turn one down there and we were worried about it. We knew we had a good car and they just tweaked on it a little bit and they fixed it because it ran a couple tenths quicker and we didn't bottom out."

BILL ELLIOTT --94-- McDonald's Taurus -- "It's not bad. These guys really put in a good effort for me. The car drove great, we just needed a little bit more speed. I really feel like this car will race good Sunday afternoon, especially in the heat. Charlotte's been good to me in the past and we'd like to have a good weekend this weekend. That's a great effort. These guys really come out and work hard week-in and week-out and I'm proud of them week-in and week-out for what they do for me. This is the part that I get all the glory, but they deserve all of it because they're the ones that fight it week-in and week-out as far as giving up everything they have to to put these cars on the race track. All in all, if we come out of here with a top 10, we can get this deal going and run good Sunday afternoon. I do feel like this car will race good Sunday, but we'll have to wait and see."

MATT KENSETH --17-- DeWalt Tools Taurus -- "I'm pretty happy with the lap for how terrible we were in practice. We were just pathetically slow. We changed everything before qualifying and it actually drove good. I probably left some on the table. I let off so early for turn one because I was expecting it to be terrible and it actually drove really good for me, so I just didn't drive it hard enough. I just didn't get all I could out of the car."

WALLY DALLENBACH --75-- TBS Dinner & A Movie Taurus -- "That's about what we thought we'd run. We struggled early and we really had a loose race car, so that's by far the best we've run. The car felt good. It was kind of a Hail Mary deal -- we were gonna be either side of good or bad. It was a good lap. I mean, I couldn't get a whole lot more out of it. I didn't get out of the gas much, so we'll take it."

KEVIN LEPAGE --16-- Taurus -- "I'm pretty happy with it. I don't know if we had a gear going bad or something, but it just didn't seem like it wanted to run down the straightaway like it had been running. But we're safely in the show. That's something we haven't been doing the last few weeks and I love Charlotte. This is the car we sat on the pole with at Atlanta, so it's a good car to us and now we've just got to see if we can get it a top 10 finish on Sunday."

JIMMY SPENCER --26-- Big Kmart Taurus -- "That's the best we've ever qualified here. That's a real good lap for the Kmart guys and myself. The guys have been working really hard all year long and the last eight or 10 weeks have been really good for us, we just haven't finished in the top 10. Our qualifying has been better and I just attribute it to my guys. Donnie Wingo and all the guys have been working really hard for me and that was a good lap for the Kmart team." WHERE DID THAT COME FROM? "This is the car we had at Darlington that got taken out and it ran really strong. They worked hard getting this thing done. This Robert Yates engine was strong. Hell, we beat all of Robert's engines tonight, so that's pretty good. But Steve Allen and all the guys in Mooresville have done a great job for us all year long. We have not had the year we wanted by any means. I think that will hold up for a top 10 and I think that's awesome, especially at Charlotte -- our home track. Carl and Travis have given us everything we need and we're finally using it. It was a good lap, but when you're that close. At California we were the outside pole and that's gonna be pretty close to the top five I think. I lost it over here in three and four and I lost it there everytime I made a practice run this afternoon. I made three practice runs and I could not get through three and four as quick as I needed to. I had the best one and two of anybody and I lost it over here. I'm a little upset over it because when you're that close you want the pole."

MARK MARTIN --6-- Valvoline Taurus -- "That was an excellent lap. We were about a 15th-place car and it looks like we're gonna start better than that, so you've got to be real happy with the effort we put out and the lap we got. We thought we would be closer to a top five than that before we got here, but as we got through practice we saw that we weren't. Race setup will be a different story."

ROBBY GORDON --13-- Universal Studios/Menards Taurus -- "We worked really hard. The last couple of weeks the team has been working really hard to try to get the cars a bit more competitive and I think we've found a lot. To be within four-tenths of the leaders is pretty good. I thought we would have run a .30-flat, which would have put us about 13th or 14th. I would have been a lot happier with that."

ROBERT PRESSLEY --77-- Jasper Engines Taurus -- "We wanted more. I don't think we had anything for the pole. We were hoping we did, if we hit everything perfect. I hit one and two right on the money. Three, I just got on the bump there and couldn't get off, so we're happy. We're in first round and gotv it going with some momentum the last couple of weeks. Now we've got to finish races."

JEFF FULLER --98-- MacPherson Motorsports Taurus -- "For these guys to come down here with a new team and a bunch of new guys and attempt to run their first race, to qualify 27th is a pretty good deal."

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HAVE ANOTHER SHOT IN A CUP CAR THIS YEAR? "Real good. We're only going to run this one race in order to maintain our rookie status. We're going to test a couple more times and go for rookie of the year next year, but it feels good to be back for at least the one race."
